Blade tension gauge

Hi just back from a service call. Most of you know this.  Release the blade tension if you are not using the mill. The customer had left the tension on since October  :o and had problems cutting. I released the tension and the gauge was still reading 1000 psi. If you leave the tension on the blade and the pressure rises above the max psi  of the gauge the gauge will no longer be in calibration. The gauge is temp sensitive (Sun+ Black = Heat).

Anyone tried painting theirs white to reduce the temperature change?  Just wanted to know if it helped much.
