Tom Sawyer

Anybody want to take a guess as to what these pictures are showing?  Here's a hint:  this is from the former Soviet Union.

Thanks for the help Swamp Donkey.

Doc

A polish bug zapper?! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ::) ::)

Tom Sawyer

Sorry Doc, try again.

Can anybody help get the pics up on the post for me???

Jeff

Looks to me like some sort of Transformer or possibly a current convertor.

 I was gonna say I like the ax better than that current convertin, spark jumpin, hair raisin ejection seat.
Ya see this mounts under the.. ah... necessary... and when someone is on the can too long it discharges through the seat causing both legs to kick and the person self edjects out of the... er booth.

DanG, just plug it in and let's see what happens. I'm betting on transformer. It'll transform electricity into lots of sparks.

Looks like some type of an electro magnet device, transformer, or maybe a coil.  Are the two large cable leads the only leads on the device?   ::)

Tom Sawyer

JeffB got it.   8) 8)It's an arc welder.  It is truly scary to watch someone use one, especially when they shimmy up the utility pole to slice into the electric grid in order to power the thing. ::) ::)  No chance that I will try to ship a welder to you - the DanG thing weighs about 100 pounds.

Tom Sawyer

Weekend Sawyer, I like your thinking.  I have been looking for a way to heat my outhouse here in the winter.

shopteacher

I thought it was for electo shock therapy.  Course climbing a pole to connect onto the power grid could have the same effect. :D

I know this one and your wrong Tom. ;)

It is the final output transformer that powers the klystron on my friends time machine. ;D

Don't know how it got to the Soviet Union.  KGB involvement? ???

Word to the wise Tom...don't say to much about this on a public forum as the local power company and police are still showing an inordinate amount of interest in some of the parts my friend "borrowed" to make his time machine. :o

but if you are holding that handle when they plug it in ,

you WILL TELL THE TRUTH !!

;D ;D ;D ;D

Tom Sawyer

Okay, you all are right, but the guy who brought it to my house used it as a welder. And yes, if there was any welding on the space station, chances are it was a welder like this that was used :o :o

Hey, who won  ???  :D :D :D :D :D

I think I won. ::) What kind of prize do I get. 8) ;)

Edit --  I changed my mind I didn't win, Jeff won.  I don't want the Boss putting a ring in my nose. :D :D

um... a  СВАРЩИК is a cooker, not a welder..  but OK... we'll go with that...

By the look of it, if you hold both ends that may just be correct...

Actually Asy, although it may mean cooker, it is the word that they use for welder here too.  Either way, it looks like an easy way to get cooked ::) ::)

CK, the first word would be pronounced "svar-sheek", and the second one would be "svarochnee"

You can cipher it out all ya want, I STILL couldn't be able to pronounce it, them words ain't near southern enough to fit my mouth.  Heck, I couldn't even type em, I found it in a English to Russian on line dictionary and just copied and pasted it.  :D
