The truck I use to move logs to mill site is
a 1974 Ford F-700 w\ a Ramsey knuckle
boom. I've only had trouble one time picking up a log.
It was a red oak 18 ft. lg. and 30 in. on the
small end and I had ti cut it in half.

are you insured for hauling logs, or do roll the dice everytime you hit the road?

There's a fine line between turning firewood into beautiful things and beautiful things into firewood.

In our parts if DOT catches hauling logs stacked above the side supports you aint going far!  If the load is not chained with DOT aproved chains......................you aint going far!

I've heard that about other states before Kirk. We pile them as high as we want to in Va, in relation to the pins, as long as you're not over max height they don't bother us. DOT chain or DOT straps are ok too. I've noticed when traveling that in several states they're using 3 bunk log trailers so they can get the weight inside the pins. We use 2 bunk or 4 pin per side trailers so that we can use the same trailers for 18' or tree length pulpwood as well as logs. To get 4500bf on a 4 pin trailer you have to take it to the sky.
