OK so I'm new at this and will be buying a bandsaw mill within the next 60 days. ??? Could I built a small kiln (aaprox 1500 bd ft), use slabwood for heat (mostly hardwood) with some type of de-humidifying device to speed up the drying process? Thanks

Gabby,

Certaily, you could burn slabs for heating a kiln. The DH might be redundant in your case. You could just heat the kiln and vent the heated/moist air ala the Koetter and, as I understand them, Northland kilns. If cheap heat is not an issue for you, the DH may just be an added expense you don't need.

Bear in mind that whatever you choose to do, it must be done at a controlled rate. You kind of got me worried by saying heat and DH to "speed up the drying process".  ;)

This thread may help you.
