Hello. Thanks in advance for help. I wasn't sure where to put this post so if it is in the wrong place I apologize.
I cut down a standing (what I believe to be) dead oak tree. I am sawing it up now. I was wondering if you all could tell me what kind and what I may want to use it for... I have nothing really in mind just wanted to cut it up before it rotted.
Thanks!
Looks like spalted oak, probably some type of white oak. I'd make something that's going to put that beautiful grain on display. That's real purdy wood you got there! 8)
Looks like Red Oak to me. I could tell for sure if I could see the end grain.
Bark looks like our red oak around here. I'm with Pete.
chestnut oak looks a little like that...

Here are the end grains
Thanks!
I vote red oak.
I'm a west coast guy, what would I know about red oak? It doesn't grow around here. In fact, it's between 75 & 100 miles to the closest natural growing oak tree.
Water oak. Did it stink a little when you sawed it?
It is a red oak for sure. 99% sure that it is Southern Red Oak, Quercus falcata.
