Title: John Deere 4000s winch issues
Post by: Horselog on September 29, 2017, 11:28:46 AM
I have a 4000 winch on my 450J dozer and it has stopped pulling. Sometimes it will turn with no load, but even then it seems lethargic and takes longer to engage than it should.  It has recent fluid and filter change. It was working awesome, way better winch than the old one I had, but one day I was pulling a big hitch and it halfway stopped pulling. It would pull some, then it wouldn't, then it would pull some, then it wouldn't. I smell a strong fluid odor when I'm trying to engage it and it won't go.

On that big hitch when the issues started, I found that I blown the actuator line running from the control to the winch, which I changed. I thought that would fix it, but it doesn't appear that it did.

Any ideas?

Does anyone have a manual and/or parts blowups for this?  Thanks.
