Title: Look what followed the Wildflower home.
Post by: Jeff on March 13, 2017, 05:02:15 PM
1983 350, built engine and tranny.  This thing screams Tammy.  :D It'll give me several little things to do, but it runs strong and the body is pretty good for 33 years old.(https://forestryforum.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/11257.jpeg?easyrotate_cache=1489438632)

She gave $2000 for it. Compared to the rust bucket trucks from the late 90s to early 2000,s with buku miles that they want that much for, I think she did okay. Those big tires had a lot of tread.

I see Edelbrock valve covers, does it have the whole top end package? I think they make around 400 HP  8)

The engine came out of a dirt track stock car is all we know ( or told more accurately). The car was wrecked, and the engine sold and put in the blazer. The intake is edelbrock and I think the carb may be to. I didnt look it over completely, but any holly I ever saw was real proud about putting the name where you can see it. This does not.  You can tell it has a cam in it by the was it idles.  When we tested it yesterday, the owner took off from a rolling start(with us as riders) and it squawked those big meats.

Jeff your comment about you being used as a ladder made me chuckle. The first thing I looked for in the picture was some kind of hidden steps for her to climb in.No doubt she already has that part figured out.
Nice looking rig, I like it!

Good looking truck for a really good price!  Does it have 1/2 ton truck axles under it or the stock axles?  If stock I'd be worried about hammering on it.  Doubling the power going through drive train usually breaks expensive things.  I certainly don't want to rain on your guys' happy parade, just trying to be a realist and help keep money in your pockets.  :)  In fact, those bigger tires might be a little worse because with stock tires being hammered on they would probably spin out and save the axle and u joints/driveshaft.
Please don't take this post as a bashing post as it's not meant to be.  I really like the new truck and I hope it performs perfects for yas I just don't want to see bad things happen with a heavy foot because with a strong V8 it's hard to keep your foot out of it!  ;)

Carb looks like a Rochester Quadrajet. S10 trucks use the same rear axle as a Camaro so lots of parts are easy to find. If no tag on axle for gear ratio, just rotate rear tire one revolution and count how many times rear drive shaft turns. Check out the lift kit  make sure all steering was done right.  Looks like a Fun Ride. Best of Luck.

I stood on my tip toes and took a couple pics of the inside. A little dingy, but other than that, no rips, the carpet is really good.

I'm anxious for it to warm up to where I can get a good look under it. It has a transmission leak somewhere it appears, So I am not willing to bring it in the polebarn until I know where. I'm guessing a rear seal from sitting, as I see drips in the snow from the transmission clear to the rear differential. So, it probably was traveling up the driveshaft. No plates, so I can't take it up to the car wash, so I need wrmer weather so I can get out my pressure washer. Probably a month anyway before I turn on the outside water.

Its really dirty. That last picture shows around the inside of the door. Ya'll that came to the pigroast remember the honey-dew and associated black mold it turns into? that is what that is in all the crevasses

You LIKED rewinding those with a pencil ???  :D That truck set up the way it is would be fun for mud bogging and street racing but a dirt track engine would be a poor choice  for serious turkey trailing. Here the key is low end torque.

I would love to own Wildflowers ride.  The new fussy SUVs all look alike and have all those electronics that are just one more thing to break down.  Love that it's a two door, too.

Nothing is more beautiful than a car that's paid for, and she won't need to fret about getting to work in the snow, either,  8)

Working on sprucing up the interior of Tammy's Toy Blazer. It's a wonder what a lot of elbow grease and a can of vinyl and fabric paint can accomplish. Here is the before and after. Changing from badly bleached out red to black.

Tammy had been saving her bus driving extra trip money to do something special with her blazer. She took it to Hogger this week (our local graphics guy)  and had some graphics put on. She has a real head turner now! She was right on with the reason she said she wanted it which was that she "would look good in that"  Well, she does. :)

So far I am not finding a quick answer to an issue with Tammy's Blazer.   When we got it, the 4x4 vacuum actuator was blown.  I replaced that this week.  I do not know if the 4x4 floor shifter is original to this vehicle.  WHen the shifter is in 2 wheel drive, it pulls vacuum. That vaccum is what pulls on the actuator into 4 wheel drive.  When you put it in 4 wheel drive, it pulls very little vaccum, but still enough to pull the actuator.   I'm not sure how this entire system works. Is there another switch or solenoid that could be malfunctioning? When the guy that Tammy got is from had it, he pullled out the cable going to the from Diff from the actuator and put a pair of vice grips on it to put it in 4wd.

The 95 dodge I use is slow to engage or disengage the front axel sometimes, I was thinking of getting a direct cable to bypass the vacuum system all together.

Something like http://4x4posi-lok.com/index.html (http://4x4posi-lok.com/index.html)

If my memory is correct , early blazers used a transfer case select switch , has three hoses , vacuum hose from the engine ,vent hose and vacuum hose to the canister you replaced . You should not have vacuum in 2 WD as you stated , only when 4 WD is selected . I would guess either some one has switched the hoses or the switch is faulty. Found this online at NAPA , this may solve the problem , No guarantee though .
Transfer Case Select Switch
Part #: NOE 6002935
Line: NAPA Solutions

Fits your 1983 Chevrolet Blazer T10 4WD
ONLINE PRICE (USD):

If the cable pulls hard it may also need to be replaced .

Do you recall the principles on how that switch works? If it faiked could it create full vacuum in the 2wd position?

Yes , you are correct . No vacuum is required in 2WD , kind of a fail safe so you do not run in 4WD as they will tear things up on dry pavement . I suggest you test for vacuum at the switch . In the normal 2 WD one should have full vacuum and the others should not . In 4WD you have vacuum from the engine and one other should put full vacuum the the canister you replaced . The other hose is to release the canister vacuum when 4WD is canceled. If you have full vacuum at the switch then their is a leak in the hose to the vacuum canister. As I recall those switches were trouble some . That is how I remember it working .
