Title: JD 440A hand throttle assembly and manual
Post by: 802hlake on February 22, 2017, 03:46:10 PM
I just bought a 440A sight unseen (sort of...I video chatted with the seller and went over many details). Come to find out, it does not have a hand throttle. It appears it was broken or cut off and ground flush to the column, and the steering wheel sheath (for lack of better word) will not spin as it would with working hand throttle. upon further investigation within the console, there appears to be a ball and socket type linkage that is missing. Anyone have a clue what I'm referring to and do you have a parts diagram you could share so that I could begin to cob this back together? while ive gotten better at it, the foot-throttle only can be pretty jerky on flat ground with brand new canadians. any links to a service manual will be appreciated too as I font feel like spending the 160 bucks on ebay.

I know what your talking about. Mine broke 30 yes ago I never fixed it. Drill a hole in the floor board and put a bolt in. Then adjust the height so your foot rests on that

May have one from a 440 not an "A". Welcome to the board.

Have you looked at the free JDParts web site ? Copy and search on this: "http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/serv/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.homepageservlet_alt" . Click on the John Deer - Parts Catalog. Put 440 in the model search, click on book 1256, sectional index, #20 speed control, for a breakdown of the throttle.. to see what parts you are missing.
Hope this helps..

without pics this is useless...

the hand throttle connects to the foot throttle, via a slot somewhere in the foot throttle linkage, so you can set the hand throttle but still mash the foot throttle when needed.

some appropriate sized round stock or all thread and a few hime (sp?) hyme? joints should be all ya need.

At least as long as the bit attached to the column is still there

there is a jungle of hydraulic hoses in there to work around... so have fun...
