Title: Old Timbers, chestnut?
Post by: nas on October 08, 2016, 11:42:21 AM
Hi all
A customer brought me these old timbers out of a feed mill that was torn down locally.  My first thought was that they are hickory, but he suggested that they might be chestnut.  Having never cut chestnut before, I wasn't sure.  What do yall think?

Chestnut is softer than Hickory and smells very differently, I don't think you would be likely to confuse them when sawing.  Just by looking at the pictures, I would guess Hickory.

Thanks guys.  It does smell like hickory so I'm sure that's what it is.
