Title: Really Getting Stressed Out Now
Post by: Corley5 on February 04, 2014, 08:09:45 PM
So I got the Fabtek fixed up and running with the new injection pump a while back.  All was good but the weather has been so DanG cold that I've chosen not to run it for fear of a weather related breakdown that could have been avoided by staying home.  Well the weather has warmed up.  It's been in the upper teens to near 20 that last few days  ::) 8)  Sunday I fired it up, warmed it up checked out all the functions and got it ready for yesterday.  Everything was fine.  Yesterday I fired her up, let her warm up and headed for the trees only lose my hydraulic functions.  Everything.  Tracks, everything  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(  With a little screwing around I discovered that if I opened and closed the door and hit the arming switch it would work for a bit.  Magnetic door switch bad?  I bypassed it with a toggle switch and all was good I headed back to the woods only to have it quit again.  Limped it back by switching it on and off and resetting.  I unhooked the toggle and connected the wires directly.  Same thing.  I called Tony, the mechanic, who came out today and tracked down the problem.  He thought it was a relay when he got to the job but after some testing and thought he tracked it to a bad solenoid/coil.  There are three of them and he switched out one with what he figured was the bad one and it solved the problem however then he discovered that another one of the three was also cracked but still working.  One of these controls the pilot pressure, one the track speeds and the other the house swing.  The two are cracked and swelled like a battery that has frozen.  I haven't found any online yet.  These are Parker S8LD 12VDC 14W.  I've found 24V and 120V but so far no 12Vs.  There's a Parker Store in Traverse City that I'm going to call in the AM.
I'm over it.  Just  about ready to put in an application at Home Depot  :(

Sorry to hear that. Sounds like one of my days! But I don't have any electric over hydraulic stuff of which I thought it out that way. You'll get it. And besides not Home Depot. You'd be better of using an ax and buck saw. At least for your pride lol. No offense Home Depoter's!! Better days are coming. Already got another hour of day light

Don't feel to bad, your not the only one. Got out of my truck quick the other day to deal with equipment drama and ripped the Achilles and 2 other great muscles in my leg. 6-12 weeks on the couch. Your better off saying the hell with it some days, fought all week getting stuff running to get nothing done.

OUCH!!

I called the ParkerStore in TC and there's one of these coils in Grand Rapids.  It's on its way but a second one is a thirty day wait according to the computer in TC.  The guy there is hoping that the GR store may have a better story.  One should get it going.  One of them although cracked and puffed still worked.

Corly5, if you have any combine salvage yards in your area you may be able to find one there most combines use solenoids for all of the hyd functions, but you will have to compare them to see if one would work for you. good luck. splitwood_smiley splitwood_smiley

Corley, I hope your days get better.  Is the coil something extra special, or can it be sourced from another MFG?  a good hydraulics shop should be able to see if there is something in Vickers that will work.  Parker stuff is good and all, but their spares support has really gone to the dogs the last few years, IMO.  Eaton has been buying up all the rest, and are supporting their stuff with engineering and manufacturing backbone.  We have swithced most of our stuff to Eaton/Vickers, for that reason, parts can be gotten easily.

Are these Similiar to those on a Timbco? I have a bunch of parts from when I was running boom so I may have a few laying in the truck or shop.

I'm not sure what a Timbco has  :)  These have a 1/2" center and a 3 prong male DIN connection.  I got the new one yesterday and hope to have it back together later today.  I'll put the bad one that still works on the track two speed control valve for now.  Now that I've got the whole part # I've found a couple other suppliers but haven't made any contacts yet.

30 days out? That must mean that there is not another one that exist in the world. Unless they're putting it on that proverbial "slow boat from China".

Corley5  I feel your pain.  We should start a specific thread that will help all of us source parts for our machines that are not always easily sourced and financially acceptable.   This is a common problem with those of us that buy machines for the first time and the costs can really add up when you don't know where to look.

It was $46.50 but with UPS shipping and tax the total was $63.08.  Not a bad price really especially when compared to Cat.  Parker's part # is S8LDD012.

My dad bought out Leonard Forest Products in 1996.. we starded by just have 4 self loading log trucks hauling wood.. Now we just have one self loader and a 2005 fabtek 133 procesor and a 2005 346B forwarder. Just me my dad and my brother run the stuff... At one time we had 21 people working for us.... the logging here in michigan took a [I have typed a profane word that is automatically changed by the forum censored words program I should know better] about 5 years ago... but it is really starting to come back now..if fuel wood just go back down to $.95 a gallon we would all be rich!

Good deal!!!
Glad you got it going without having to wait 30 days. My Bobcat T320 has those solenoid/coil things to control the hydraulics, come to think of it, so does my Fecon FTX-90. I had one go out on my Bobcat last year, right after I had the engine rebuilt. I just knew my mechanic buddy had hooked something up wrong (but thankfully didn't accuse him of it  :D). We tried to figure it out for a few hours when another friend (who has a T320 also) came by and said to try swapping out the solenoids. I now carry a couple of spares to avoid down time, hopefully that will make it where none of them ever quit again.
I'll have to order a couple for the Fecon too, now that I just realized it has them too. Everything else I have is old enough that I don't have to worry about electronics, other than a tach or 2.

Red, how many hours did your T320 have on it when you had to rebuild the engine?

About 1200.  :(
Not sure what happened, one of the valves turned loose, dropped down and took out a piston. I could have replaced the piston and re-done the head, but you have to pull the engine to replace the piston so it's not that much more to do it right and rebuild the whole thing.

I know this is an old thread, but just in case anybody else is looking for these coils, Parker made the S8LDD012 connector obsolete, there is some new old stock floating around but it's expensive, the suggested replacement is Parker #CCS012D which is widely available and cheap.

Yup, that's the #.  Another one failed and I ended up getting one from Cat and that got me the Parker # as well.  Discount Hydraulic Parts had/has them for less than half Cat's price.
