Here is a tree I saw growing in Peru. You can also get them at Walmart.
What kind is it?

Looks like it might be a Norfolk Island Pine.
Araucaria araucana
Monkey Puzzle Tree.

some sort of Aucaria species for sure
Norfolk Island pine is Araucaria heterophylla
http://www.fore.canterbury.ac.nz/fore214/nrflksld.htm
Very salt and wind tolerant tree, it will grow straight even when planted on exposed coastlines.
Also grows fairly fast and get to be HUGE
If it was in South America it may be Araucaria angustifolia - Parana Pine
http://www.botanik.uni-bonn.de/conifers/ar/ar/angustifolia.htm
A very similar tree
Araucaria araucana is the Monkey Puzzle tree, related but has a different form, more right angle branches, that look like a climbing frame for a monkey.

I found a site that also called it the Chrismas tree plant. So, I agree with Tom's suggestion.
There is also a columbian pine as well, which is similar. I don't think it is the common name though, can't find it on the web.
