Stihl impulse brass connector?
« on: November 06, 2017, 06:56:12 pm »
Hey guys, I am rebuilding a 310 that had a bad piston/cylinder, torn impulse line and broken rear handle. I always get cylinders from EPR and never had any issues with over 20 saws I have rebuilt. Purchased a 49mm 390 big bore (not stihl brand) and thought I had it all ready to go and sealed the new cylinder to the base, then I noticed the brass impulse connector missing on the new cylinder.  Figured I could cut a little line in the old cylinder near the connector, gave it a wack from a chisel and the old brass connector slide right out. Sliding it into the new cylinder was way too easy and will leak as is. Does anyone recommend something to "glue" it in or expand the brass connector a tiny bit?

Tapping a slightly oversized nail into the base end of the connector or tapping all around the hole to insert it into would give it a bit more anchoring tightness

Thanks Joe. I ended up doing just what you said and then applying some honda bond around the brass before inserting. Let it sit over night and it seems pretty solid this morning.

I am really eager to see if the 64cc cylinder (8%) power increase will be noticeable!
