Found inside a Maple tree
« on: October 31, 2017, 07:50:16 pm »
It was quite windy here in Massachusetts two days ago and we lost the top half a 60-70' maple tree (thankfully just lost one fence segment).   While cutting up the large branches I came across this just laying on the ground.   The image measures about 9" long.   Any thoughts on this?  Anyone ever see anything like it before?

That is a very unusual and colorful design.  Looks like a feather.

   Looks like a prison tat. :D :D

It is neat though. Always interesting when you open a log. Like Forrest Gump says - like opening a box of chocolates. You never know what you are going to find even in what looks like a routine log.

I check the list of Omens of Good Fortune and it's not on the list.  Doesn't look as if it will help you win the lottery.  Sorry, but it is neat.

Very neat, it does look like a leaf or feather. My guess is that it is an ambrosia mark and the feathering is from it being split rather than sawn.
