361 won't start after finding barb wire
« on: July 06, 2017, 01:18:26 am »
I was clearing along the property line this morning ot put up some fence and found some old barb wire with the saw. It got under the drive sprocket and broke the c-clip. Luckily I saw the sprocket laying in the leaves. Got a new clip and put it all back together but now it won't start. I haven't checked the compression yet but wondering if maybe something internal broke?

With the spark plug and clutch drum removed, turn the engine over by pulling the starter slowly.
Is the clutch rotating?
If it rotates your crank shaft is intact.
The only other part that could take a hit from a saw at WOT coming to a sudden stop is flywheel key.
If this happens you will see a spark at the plug but not at the right timing
You will need to remove the flywheel to check this

Must have been flooded. Fired up today and ran like a champ all morning.

The joy was short lived. Won't start at all now. I don't have time to tear into it now. Will have to wait until I get home next time.  >:(

LeeB, pull the plug and tip saw upside down, pull starter a few times. See if fuel is being blown out. If it is you are flooded. Give it 15-20 pulls upside down to clear it up.
I have had mine flood over night for some reason. Once I learned the starting drill for it the saw starts pretty easy.

then if that does not work check the flywheel, I have seen more than a few 361's twist the flywheel key off . I even have had people want to give me 361s that the keys were twisted off cause could not get the saw to start , just fix it for them and hand it back to them

I suspect it's the flywheel key. I'll tear it down when I get back from work this time.

Never did get around to tearing into this saw. Picked it up a few days ago and gave the cord cord a yank. Fired right up and been doing fine since.  ::)
