Magazine recommendations?

Can anybody recommend magazines for woodland owners. I checked out the website for Independant Sawmill and Woodlot Management (sawmillmag.com) and I ordered a free trial copy. I'm interested in independant landowner/logger issues, but it seems more focused on sawmills.

I like Northern Woodlands Magazine. A good mix of natural history, forestry, and practical information for the woodland owner. www.northernwoodlands.com

The best one for landowners is Tree Framer put out by American Forest Foundation.  Costs are $18/year or $32/2 years.  Web site is http://www.treefarmsystem.org

Lots of good articles on forest management as well as wildlife, taxes, etc.

On first perusal, this one looks like a very strong grassroots area for informed response to the Sierra Club 'Woodman, spare this tree' stance. The Goliath in the perceived battle opposing the brave little Sierra Club is the large commercial woodlot manager, especially those working on government land or in 'National Forest'. This is an emotionally charged  confrontation. Small, independent, personally owned tree farms effectively remove the stigma of 'Goliath' from the debate. When you own your own trees, know your own trees, occasionally even hug your own trees,  :D :D :D - it's gonna take a lot of weird press to make you into a bad, unfeeling, chainsaw-wielding, striplot-producing monster in the public eye.   lw

Thanks everyone.

One of the main reasons I've been looking for magazines is to keep up with current events and products relevant to tree farmers. I've been having a terrible time finding winter pak boots with steel toes and kevlar or ballistic nylon uppers. Cedar runs lighter than most other woods, but those logs still hurt when they roll onto my toes. There's also a definite gap in coverage between my chaps and my toes.

Cedar,

Have you tried Norman's in gaylord or tawas?  Or Mill end in gladwin or clare?  Mill end is where we buy all our company safety boots, including steel toe pacs. I can probably get you a safety equipment list through The Timbermens, Don't know if you can order from them, but I can.

Mill End even had the size 17 pac boots our mechanic wears.

Ohhhhhhh!, I get it.bent his legs over to make his feet. :D

Folks with special physical attributes always seem to have a special answer.

My Uncle, who has a polished top says "I grew right through it".

His dad, who had cut his fingers off in a table saw, told us kids, "I used to bite my finger nails when I was little".

I tell folks who stare at my girth, "I would go on a diet but I couldn't keep my weight up"......or......"I used to be taller".

A black friend (yoeman) in the navy, "I used to have a deck job but got too much sun".
:D
Still, seventeen is a lot of feet. :D

Forest Landowner used to be a pretty good magazine.  It's put out by the Forest Landowners Association.  Their URL is http://www.forestland.org/ .
