Looking for Saw Mill near Waxhaw NC
« on: November 24, 2014, 07:33:58 pm »
I'm new hear so I'm not sure where to post this.  Please re-direct me if there is a more appropriate place.  I'm a woodworker near Waxhaw NC and I'm looking for a local sawmill to to saw natural edge slabs to be used for table tops and other furniture.  Any body out there close by?

Thanks, Dave

Welcome to the Forestry Forum, davebmck.

How about posting some pictures of your work/projects?  There are many woodworkers here.   :)

A Picture Posting Tutorial is the last item on the bottom of the index page.  If you need help, just ask.   ;D

Posting pictures is easy.

First click on the Box that says "Forestry Forum Gallery" near the top and to the left of the home page while you are logged into the Forum.  It is just under the banner for Lucas Mill.

Click the tab "My Profile" and then the drop down menu "Create / Order My Albums".  Then click the "New Album" box near the bottom of the page.  Name the new album you have created.

Then click "Upload File" box near the top of the Gallery Page.  You can then select the Album you just created.

Now use the "Browse" button the browse you computer and select the Pictures you would like to upload.

Now you can go back to the Forum Home Page and draft a new post.  When you get to a point where you want to insert a picture "Click here to add Photos to post."  A new screen will open that is the Gallery where you just created an Album and uploaded the pictures.  Select the picture you want to insert and scroll down to the bottom of the page.  Then click the "insert image in post button."  The code for the picture will be inserted in the post you are drafting.

When you have finished you post you can click the "Preview" button near the bottom of the screen.  You can now edit the your post or if you are done editing you click post and your all done.

Simple - right?

Or you can look at the Picture Posting Tutorial as Magicman has suggested.

Trying to attach a photo.  This is a photo of a coffee table in my living room that I made from an inverted spalted maple stump.  I'll try to find some more to post.

That stump coffee table is absolutely spectacular!!

Well, on second glance I see that it is totally defective, hollow, spalted, and needs proper environmental disposal.  Send it directly to me and for a small additional fee, I can make the proper arrangements.   :D   8)

Thanks. Nature's design of course, but perhaps directed to a different purpose.

Thanks for the offer, but I think I can live with the defects. Kind of speaks to me.

Hi Dave - welcome to the FF!  I'm located about 2-1/2 hours east of Charlotte outside of Raleigh, and have a slabber, sawmills and kilns.

Warren46 is in your back yard, and would be a great person to meet.  There used to be a fellow named Randy (Woodbutcher) in Waxhaw that was running a mill, but I have not heard from him in a few years.

A little west of you is Frank Seaforth who runs a slabber sawmill.  North of you in Iron Station is Kyle Edwards at The SawmillLLC.  I don't think that Kyle mills for others, but he does have a great inventory of kiln dried slabs that he mills and dries.
