When I pass on to the big dust pile, I wonder what people will say when they are going through my tools and such, making note of the odd ball stuff nobody will have a clue what it was! When I'm at an auction and the auctioneer dosen't know what an item is, you can bet it comes to my house!

Hey there seems to be a trend here, we all keep getting antique tools to have for ornaments and  other things like that, then when we go, the tools if sold at auction, will be like ancient artifacts :D :D Just think of the $$$ someone will pay for this stuff. I think that wedge is an OLD OLD OLD thing, but in very good shape for however old it is. How much did you spend to get it?  and just because I'm curious, WHERE did you get it?
Let there be saws for all mankind!

I may have been born on a turnip truck, but I didn't just fall off.

It is a felling wedge used with a two man  crosscut saw. As someone said the string was to keep the wedge from getting lost. One the same size only aluminum was used with the early chain saws lthey didn't tear up a chain like the old steel ones. Now they are plastic.
