the courts said firedrone needs to pay 70 mil for recalled tires. pay you, the consumer. they had five yrs. how much have they paid. should i go into the pits of mosquito heaven to make a truckoad of recalled tires.

that was their restitution, for deaths of a defunk tire.

personally, dont care who died in the hands of firedrone, unless they bought a funked up wheel, in that case.................make em pay

the courts have decieded, and thats not our problem...our problem is how many silage pit tires can we fit into a pickup?

The recalled tires were drilled in the sidewalls as they were removed from vehicles. Sure, they were cheap tires. But IMO the main problem was people who didn't maintain proper air pressure. Ford recommending too low of a tire pressure for a softer ride was also a bad idea, but just how many people look at the door sticker to get the air pressure specs? I'd run those cheap tires on my Ford today without hesitation, but I'd run them at 35psi.

im just thinkin this was a slap on the wrist for a big co. and the fact the law was on our side for once.....

have you heard of the recall? do you care of court proceedings? would you like to see courts do what they say they will do? does it matter the courts are sponserd by us?
and, do you pay taxes?

The thing that irked me about the Firestone/Ford debacle was not the tires failing. Yes, we've all read the technical reasons, and maybe it shouldn't have happened in the first place. What got me is the two companies denying there was a problem, and then blaming each other when the problem was exposed. I was always told to fess up to what you've done and take the consequences, not hide behind a bunch of lawyers and PR folks.

An interesting thing happened to me concerning Firestone and Ford. Back in 2000 I purchased a 1994 Ford Ranger from my friend's used car lot. The only folks who knew were the proper authorities at the DOT in PA, I never called Ford to tell them I bought their truck. When this scandal was going on I received a letter from Ford, asking if I still had the original Firestones on the truck. Apparantly they contacted all the states and got motor vehicle records so they could track down all the vehicles. The truck had 75,000 miles on it and another brand of tires so I checked the appropiate box on the card they asked me to return. Even if it still had the Firestones on it I would have put 32 pounds in them and they would have been fine. The blowouts occured under low inflation, at high speed, in southern states in the summertime. Well I keep the inflation up, drive slow, and live up north, so I would have been fine. No sense causing them anymore trouble than they had.

those recalled tires saved us a ton on money on the farm.  the local tire dealer had a whole semi full of those tires, and was trying to get rid of them quickly, since they had to swallow the cost of disposal.  We came by, picked up all that they had and used them to hold down the tarps on our hay piles.  Some of them had small enough holes in the sidewall that we could put a tube into the tire and use them on the hay trailers- we havent had a problem with them yet.

Those Firestone tires, ATX and Wilderness tires were 100% better then anything that came on a new 60s and 70s car or truck imo.

Now, we expect no defects and the ability to take uncommon sense actions with no bad results. LIke the people that drive a SUV 70+ MPH in the hot summer, blow a tire, and roll over.

Saw a person complain her 4x4 Explorer had a steering vibration at 75. The speed limit is 55 mph in all of MA, what state would you like me to drive it to for testing.

I have seen people drive those ATX tires with the steel belts showing because they were too cheap to rotate the tires. Had one person take a vacation like that and said, they should last, I will buy new tires after my vacation. And if the person got killed, who would they blame? Firestone and Ford.

Ya, I drilled holes in a lot of good tires. What a waste. I wanted to snag some for my Ranger (tires for life!), but, they would not allow me to do it.

Firestone has paid enough imo. Classic business example. The plant with the worse employee morale, produced the most defective tires.

If you know how to drive popping a tire at 100 mile an hour is not a big deal!   People hear the pop and get off the gas and hit the brake, bad BAD driving.   When you hear the pop stay on the gas or even better yet mash harder on it till things level out and you have control then gently slow to a stop, no need to even go out of your lane.   I have an exploder and have popped 3 tires on it over the years with out a bit of trouble, guess all them driving schools I been to were good for some thing.   The first set of stock Firestone ATX tires on the exploder lasted a year and a half and were the best it's had on it to date!   Chock this up to the fact no one now days has a clue how to drive threw a blow out, no body ever schooled them on it. :-/

Right on, AD. Besides talking on them DanG cell phones and puttin on make-up and makin business deals, and all them "important" things, that occupies yer mind, most people act like they haven't got a clue how to drive.

Have to wonder about those Ford 'exploders'.  I recently read that U-Haul won't rent a trailer to be pulled by them, as they are tired of being sued and blamed for the cause of a roll-over. Kinda sorts out the Ford from the rest of the SUV's and makes one wonder if it really was the tire at fault. Hmmm?

I lost a 17 year old nephew in one when it rolled last Nov.  
Pretty sad, but it was being whipped back on the road (possibly another case of not having training to handle a vehicle in a problem situation).

A few weeks ago my son rolled our SUV.  It was not a ford, it was a Nisson Pathfinder, with a new set of 15 inch tires on it, not firestone, but a name brand.  Judgeing from the way it rolled, as many times as it rolled in a very short distance it didn't LOOK like he was driving exeptionally fast.  It was  absolutely driver error, getting in the  loose gravel near the edge of the payment, and whipping back too sharp.  I have cautioned him about this, but the fact is, he didn't have enough experience to absolutely handle the situation.  Luckily, he was wearing a seat belt.  All the windows were busted out, and caved in on the passenger side.  I'm thankful he wasn't killed, or even seriously hurt.  We've had quite a few driving lessons since then, including my trying to teach him how to avoid, or handle this situation in the future. I'm also teaching, or letting him learn how to drive a vehicle with a manual transmission.  MOSTLY, in the pasture.

We can all complain about this car or that truck, but the facts are that government regulations and interference are the main reason why SUV's are so popular today. People want a vehicle large enough to carry their friends and pull their boat/ trailer/ whatever. We used to have big station wagons with big V-8 engines and people bought them by the millions. EPA came along and mandated higher fuel economy for passenger cars, so the manufacturers built smaller cars with tiny, fuel sipping engines.

Well, guess what? People don't want tiny cars with little fuel-sipping engines, they want BIG cars with BIG engines. One of the loopholes in the EPA mandates let trucks get away with looser restrictions than cars, so the manufacturers built trucks to do what cars used to do. People like that, so people buy trucks and SUV's because they are the only vehicles which are big enough and strong enough to fill our needs.

So the next time you hear someone complaining about all the monster SUV's on the road, or how they are 'unsafe', or they use too much fuel, just thank the EPA. Because without their interference, we would still have big cars which wouldn't have such a high center of balance as trucks and would be less likely to roll over.
