I would like to thank everyone for replying to my post "which one first"  It was the one about chaps or hardhat first.  after reading your posts from you guys i came to the conclusion that I can't be a cheep A** when it comes to the personal protection equipment. So I went to my STIHL dealer and bought both the 9 layer leg chaps and the hardhat.  All of your different experences with chainsaws and cutting are very help full to a less experenced person like me.  I like being safe and love getting out and using my two STIHL's, and would like to keep being able to.  So thank you for your thoughts.

That's smart.
You might also add a pair of clear safety glasses if you don't already wear them ,debris will still enter the screen on the face shield.
I was smacked in the face by a spring pole a few years ago and the screen took all the impact.

I'd go for the safety glasses too. I wear prescription glasses, so I have a special pair made up with safety lenses. You'd be suprised at how much debris comes up under the face shield and is stopped by the glasses. Glad you got some good safety equipment. I've been wearing those same 9 layer chaps for years and they've done their job a few times.
