All I could find is the news story about the guy named Scarpitti. Talk about someone that needs to get a life.

The worst thing about that story is that the guy got 6% of the vote in the congressional election :o  Can't believe that many people would be crazy enough to vote for a crazy like that.

Some folks vote for an unknown thinking that they are voting against someone else rather than for someone.  When they end up with the county drunk as the mayor, they wonder what happened. :D

Sometimes you gotta be careful 'bout what you wish for. ;D

They seem to be a loose knit group. They hit some fur farms around here a couple years ago, let out a bunch of mink and fox. Bunch of em were crunched on the highway, others eaten by other wild animals, some recaptured. They torched a couple of places, my feeling from what I read was the feds didn't take it very seriously and nobody was ever caught.

I've read about vandalism around here but the media doesn't think it's news when a local logging outfit has its loader, skidder and a couple of trucks damaged or burned.   They don't associate it with the entire possessions of the company and they are now out of business, nor do they consider it any great loss.  They don't realize the amount of money that is invested in big equipment like that.

It's more popular for the media to hammer on the logger for killing trees than to even think of them as a valid business that provides them with the paper they are writing upon or the house in which they live.

Small town weekly's will get into this kind of news because they are a real part of the community. The big papers, TV stations and Radio Stations are too busy talking about  Iraq and Iran to worry about what is going on next door.

This kind of Terrorism is better classified as Vandalism.  The people who take part in it should not have their activities given any credence as far as making statements and they should be  made to provide restitution as soon as their jail term is over.

Unfortunately it's not just a youthful venture. We have some immature and "not too bright" adults who think it's fun to tear up someone else's belongings.  The anger they generate in the victim could very well produce fatal reactions.  Most of our businessmen are level headed enough not to take the law into their own hands though.  We just wish the "Law" took things like this a little more seriously. The "kid" that burned up the quarter of a million dollar piece of equipment doesn't need his hand slapped, he needs to be slapped in jail and then made to make restitution.  He'll figure out it's not much fun after he's done that one time.  The second time he does it just goes to prove he's not worth the rehabilitation.

I seriously doubt that ' Tre' or any of the other publicized activist members of the ELO would have the money to fully restitute any of their victims.

These people are not very smart.

They are messing with family's who have battled regulatory acts which have minimized their ability to make a living.  These families have seen their life blood cut by the lack of work.

These folks do not look at it as vandalism but as a threat against their lives.

So, I would not be a bit surprised if  unidentified remains were discovered some years from now from a failed activist attacks.

I was at a conference last week where some new opinion polls and research was done regarding forests, thier management and all issues including ones like this were explored at one of the seminars.  Lets just say I was quite surprised, that is in a good way.  It seems that tide is turning against the preservation groups by the general populous.  They are getting pretty fed up with the way the preservation groups block everything.  They are particularly fed up with the radical groups.  In other words these groups are losing market share... big time.  Particularly when the general populous learns even a tiny bit about how forests are really managed.

The focus group film was quite enlightening. ;D

One thing to remember, is that environmental extremism is faith based.  Member of these groups range from the hardcore to the ones that are just there for the social interaction... namely drugs, sex and food.  It is true that most of the individuals involved in this are not very intelligent.  It is also sad that you can wake up in the morning an declare yourself an "Environmentalist" and the media will consider you an expert on the environment.

Thewre is a local college professor (political science) that is considered a evironmental expert.  His total expertise is the ability to a GIS program and he has driven through the woods a few times.  He is invited to sit in as an expert regarding resource management on public hearings and panel discussions.  Unfortunately these experts carry allot more weight with thier opinions than they deserve.

Great article!!    8)
Finally someone I totally agree with speaks up on this subject! Thank you for sharing this article Tillaway, maybe there is hope for mankind yet....I doubt that many will listen to him though. "they already know better"
I will never forgive nor forget the espousing of zero population growth propaganda from my high school days, I was so foolish to believe their lies. Not to mention the lies about global cooling, mass starvation, running out of oil, etc.....
Why don't these liers get called on the carpet? They just are allowed to go on making up more lies to scare children and adults with. Shame on them, and shame on us for allowing it. Now we have lies about global warming, we are still running out of oil, all are forests will be gone very soon, the atmosphere is deteriorating, we should all become plant eaters and save the cows & pigs from the awfullness of mankind, .............somebody stop me!  :-X
All these lies continue and nobody challenges them, and if they do, they are called insensitive or ignorant. Mankind is so arrogant to believe our little speck in time makes any difference what so ever to nature. We ARE nature, not above it, not sent here to control it, nor to protect it. We are nature, nature is us.No more no less.
OK, I'm done. Thanks again for the article Tillaway.  ;)
