Looks like an older tjd than what I've toyed with the shroud is different. Mine didn't have the clutch on it either. I've got a v4 that takes the same jugs and pistons as the tjd. Now thats one heavy critter. Looks like you'll have that mill up and runing before too long. Don't let the "inspector" wear you out though ;D :D

What is the bell housing all about. Does it have a clutch in it?If not Id be thinking abt removing it and belt drive off the crankshaft.

As far as internals parts, NOT my gig, I dont measure anthing below an 1/8" :D.  I let the machinist do that. Ya gotta know your strengths, that aint mine, I had a basket case YZ490 Yamaha to prove it.

Since I dont know how mine might be used, any parts, bell housings, or gear reductions I would interested in those.

Looks good! Somewhere on here someone mentioned that keeping the blade the same length as a popular mill might be an advantage when ordering blades, instead of having to get custom length every time. I see the wm lt70 takes a 184", the lt 15 to 50 takes 158". some one who knows more about blades might chime in on this.

Steve, before I converted my bandmill to electric I used a two cyl.  Wisconsin to drive the band and hyd.pump.It was enough power, but nothing extra.Frank C.

I don't remember the models of the 2 cyl. wisconsins but one model boath pistons travel up and down togather, the outher they alternate.I believe some are 16hp outhers 18hp,all with good torque. Frank C.

nice motor yea they are heavy buggers ,,they like to run at 3200 rpms ,franks correct the th and  thd was made before the tjd both are the same except on the tjd they made the crankshaft different so one piston is at the top and the other down the change was made to reduce vibration ,...

Nice looking mill build Steve Phillips. Good pics.
You planning on having hydraulics or all manual?

One of the problems encountered during my mill build was finding tire/wheel combination that would run true.  Actually took me several tries to get it right, spin balancing was the easiest way to determine this.   Much easier then trying to mill with a vibrating, jumpy mill.

Your blade length should be fine. Having a lot of adjustment won't hurt either.  Tire pressure can also be used to attain some adjustment.

Great engine, those Wisconsins have loads of torque.

I built my own band mill with the help of Forestry Forum.

like to thank every one there comments ,you guys have been really helpful and kind .
new dilemma , i have to find away to lift this head up now. this is what i have ,a 12vdc 2000 pound boat wench (free). i see a lot of mills have a garage door spring on them with hand cranks.
figured i would throw this out on the board for some ideas.
one of my worst habits is i use a starret level and like the bubble in the middle , but to do that i know hyds are the answer. right now they are out of my buget

i would mount the winch on one side and weld a shaft on the winch drum going over to the other side same size drums on both sides should lift evenly ,if you can find a small gear reduction with 2 output shafts worm drive about 100:1 ratio would work also

also on the engine mount i used 2 rigid rubber mounts on 2 holes and for the other 2 holes ran a plate across and welded one mount in the center very little vibration transfer to the saw

I wouldn't call that a bad habit, just being thorough ;). I have a Starrett Mod. 98, boy that thing is precise. I'm kinda getting spoiled with these 'new fangled' digital levels though- just listen for the beep at zero and you're good to go. I can't help you out with the lift, as I'm using acme screws. Have you had a chance to check out www.diybandmill.com ? There are tons of galleries and photos of what's being done and what's been done.
