I really like the "imported from Detroit" at the end. Everything here should be imported. Imported from Florida, imported from Oregon, imported from South Dakota..........

Scott, I should apologize to you and all of my countrymen because I'm one of those people.  Seriously, I apologize and you are probably correct.  Guess I'm just gun shy.  Or maybe I am looking at how it was the gov't directly stepping into the auto industry to prop up a broken system.  ???

When I saw the ad the first time, I immediately thought that what Eastwood meant by "halftime in America" was that the current administration is only half done with their game.  I seriously expected to see Obama say something at the end of that ad.

I will shut up now because I don't want to trounce on your thread any further.  Clint's message was powerful and I'm glad you posted it here.  Thank you.

WB - no apology to me is needed, especially from you.  It's one thing when we all have different opinions, and can discuss them and share different perspectives.  That I'm all for.  Please don't "shut up" as you put it; as I value and respect your thoughts and opinions.

As far as the political nuance, the same thought went through my mind the first time that I heard the first 20 seconds of the ad, and then I realized that the true meaning was much deeper, and much truer.

What disgusts me is to see a bunch of leaders from the "right" trouncing the ad for their own political agenda.  I like Karl Rove and Fox News, but on this issue I think that they are in the wrong.  Both parties seem to disagree on something just because it makes the other party look good, rather than the fact that it's good for the country as a whole.

As a result, we (individuals) start filtering things though the "political agenda glasses" and miss the point that someone that has a different idea is not necessarily a bad or evil person.

I find equally if not more disgusting the biased and sensationalist reporting that NBC's Today show put out today regarding firearm sales between individuals.  It seems as if intelligent discourse has totally disappeared from the national political and media leadership.

Thanks for clarifying, Scott.  There is a lot of wisdom in what you say.  And yes, that spot on the Today show greatly annoyed me, too.  Probably shouldn't discuss it on this board, though.

Back to the ad, at least Clint Eastwood still has a lot of charisma!  He would make a great main character as a gruff and tough old school logger:  "I know what yer thinkin', tree.  Yer thinkin', did he fill the tank on his chainsaw or is it outta gas?  The question you gotta ask yerself, tree, is do you feel lucky.  Well, tree, da ya?"  And then the tree falls over when he looks at it all scary like.

Yeah, Clint's talents lean more to acting than singing.  :D

I really didn't see any political bias in the ad, and I'm usually pretty alert to such things. Your Mileage May Vary.

HAHAHAHA!!!  LOL LOL Oh man.  I'm in tears.  hahaha  *whew*  Wow.  That's a side of Clint I don't remember having seen before.

Back to the ad, I hope you will pardon me for saying something blunt?  I was talking to a friend here and we noted that in a way, it's sad that a paid actor for an auto company is the hope of a nation.  Now, I don't want to take away from the good feelings this ad introduced.  These days, to get a message across, you have to have the money and ability to do so.  But still, shouldn't we be finding our inspiration from something other than a paid advertisement from companies propped up by the gov't?

We shouldn't go too far down that rabbit trail, lest the admins move this to a different board but it's something we should all personally consider.  You have to hand it to them, they sure got a lot of people talking with this one.

I'll admit Clint shouldn't quit his day job to become a singer.  That was filmed locally here 40 years ago, just south of Baker City.

I really like the "imported from Detroit" at the end. Everything here should be imported. Imported from Florida, imported from Oregon, imported from South Dakota..........

And imported from Alberta via the Keystone XL pipeline to run all those well built machines that are imported from Detroit MI and Moline IL and Grand Island NE etc etc.

60 thousand plus jobs in the refinery and infrastructure markets from the pipe line not including the pipeline jobs state side. I know most on here  support this project and that is good for both sides of the boarder.

If you ain't livin on the edge you are takin up way to much room. Of course at my age if I get too close to that edge any more theres a good chance I may fall off.
