WoodMizer lt40sh cant adjustment
« on: January 27, 2012, 01:32:27 pm »
I was just wondering whether bandmillers on here adjust their blade tracking, ie. cant adjustment, while their mill is running or by hand with it off?

Off, to be safe. This adjustment is described in the manual in one of the alignment routines.  At the beginning after putting a clean blade on clean belts and running it a bit, I believe it says to turn off the engine and take out the key.

There was one guy who did it while running. I think they call him Lefty now . . .

Yup!  Adjust "a little" (it don't take much) then engage the blade to check, and if necessary, adjust a little more!

One good thing I have found about my LT40SH, 2500 hours and have never touched the blade tracking. If I ever have to adjust, it will not be running.

I just rebuilt the drive side, reinforced the hole and replaced a worn drive shaft. All adjustments were made with the mill off until the saw was close for fine tuning the tracking.
Then I give it a ¼ turn and engage so that the saw is brought up to running speed and then disengage to check tracking, and make additional adjustments.
Hand spinning the saw will get you close but the saw has to reach running speeds to accurately adjust tracking. At no point are you close to the saw and all guards are in place.
