We have a range of colors for the hearts.  There are ones that have the darker grey or blue/green colors, and there are those that have a small, pink heart.

When I sell soft maple lumber, they always say no silver maple.  I point out that there is no silver maple around here except urban trees and along river banks.  And we don't cut any along river banks.  But, the lumber buyers usually are describing those trees with the blue/green hearts.  They don't match with the pink heart soft maple.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

Most of my red maple here mill out engraved in 4 colors-- like, grey, blue, red, against sapwood cream...
