Now here's another  thing that's phoney about that  axe man deal .Every so often one of them  throws a coniption fit and throws a thousand dollar saw around like so much garbage .Nobody does that to their own saw and if they did that to a company saw they'd be fired on the spot .

You obviously never met my late brother........  :-[

No ,sorry about the late part though .Evidently he either bought a lot of saws or he became very good at repairing them .

Oh like I should talk .I'd just as soon beat on things with hammer .Like a computer that refuses to do what I want it do .So far I've refrained because it wouldn't  work to repair the problem .--if it would though--

Shelby's the worst of the worst, and its all scripted, but I still look forward to it every sunday. Hope the horse loggers have less drama and more logging. Have'nt seen a skidder yet, must not be exciting enough. or nobody to fight with.

I fast forward through the swamp stuff, it isn't logging. The yarder stuff is interesting though. Yes, they really do talk like that, even worse. Yes, sometimes pickups are left where they can be hit and yes it happens. It is very common to have the yarder right on your ars and you are constantly keeping an eye on the hookers and the skyline all the way up your strip. Then at the top you have the yarder, the loader, a log truck and the crummy and the skyline and the chaser all within a tree length and it does make you sweat. I have noticed here and with non loggers I know that they think the show is fake, nobody can really live that life. Mostly these people work in office setting and are so far removed from this reality that it just doesn't compute. Kind of like I can't believe people sit in a nice cozy office with a beautiful secretary and make 200K a year doing it.  :D

Is that 4 wheel swamp crawler that Shelby uses something homemade or commercial? Never seen anything like it before.

I think the buggy that Shelby uses is left over from an oil company of yesteryear.  They probably used it for exploration.  Most of the folks around here who have swamp buggies use tractor or skidder tires mounted to chassis powered by v-8 engines and transfer power through a couple of transfer cases to achieve low gearing.

quote from paul case "Swamp loggers, now there is a show. Real people not reality tv. PC"

I'm with ya 100% PC , I don't have that channel and Netflix won't add any more new seasons!!   smiley_furious

Its all about the entertainment...and money.  I liked axmen in the first season, and 2 was good too, but downhill from there.  I can't stand the Smiths (and Rygaards sometimes).  They talk like every father/son does that...not this ole boy.  My Dad would respect me enuff not to, and I'd loose my teeth if I cussed him back.   dadgum you, Charlie! Raised different I reckon.

Another show I liked was Discovery Ch "Extreme Loggers", but they have never put it on DVD...awesome horse logging.  Guess it didn't have enough drama either.

Its a smaller version of an AMG swamp buggy.     I have a friend that has one he uses in sout  LA MS and AL.   He does soil sampling from it.          AMG was known for  using hydrostatic drives in their buggies.  Heres a couple links he sent me to them.     Wilco bought them out.        They had a  narrow   pole dolly to transport them.    Its just an axle and a long pole and hitch.  You straddle it and back overit and then  raise the tongue.        My friend found out what it costs to have one of the wheels re fabbed after the axle on the dolly   let the wheel drag.             After Katrina he chauferred DEQ inspectors around the MS swamps.     I think his has a 3-53 Detroit.

I was also raised the the right way.  I would have it coming to me if I talked to dad in that manner and I would not do it even if the producers told me to.  We don't respect each other anymore.  These scripted shows do not help.

I hadn't kept up as much since Gold Rush is playing, but got to see a bunch of past episodes of Axmen yesterday.  It is interesting to see grown men treat equipment that way - however, it does happen, even in "real life".  I think I have caught up to the new show now, there is a new crew from Montana coming on-board.  It is entertaining.....
Former District Ranger - but don't hold that against me......
