Today's small pile of whittling....LT-15 GO working.
« on: January 08, 2012, 06:17:27 pm »
Was given a nice blowdown poplar, 26" dbh, and in fact the farmer pretty much said if it blows down out here it is yours...whack of pine and maple yet to be sawn.
These pics are sorta rare...usually I work alone, but today, SWMBO went with...and carried a few board!

That was a full days work!  1000 feet on a LT15 in a day is getting the job done.

Most of this is going into a three rail board fence...some 4x6 and 4x4 posts amd the balance in 1x6...poplar won't last but a few years, but I have a sawmill. No problem.
One of the 4x6 I am going to carve into a six or eight foot iguana or komodo dragon, and fit his feet to sit on top of the fence rail...

Speaking of carving...I need a new mailbox post...thinking of doing a six or eight foot tall viking
Head holding a 4x4 in his teeth like a toothpick....where the 4x4 sticks across the ditch amd holds up the mail box...

Anytime that I have needed to use a post that I knew would not resist rot, I have drilled the bottom and inserted a pipe.  The pipe was then buried or concreted and the post was left above ground.

I also have a sawmill, but I do not have the time to re-do stuff.

Well, to be fair, this is a hundred or so feet of fence along the front of my property..designed mostly to keep the county @#$&@#$%&*  busybodies in their place, at the far end of the driveway.
No big deal to replace a post every so often, and this is a low budget project.

The twit that runs county codes here is literally a nosy old bat, and has recently offended pretty mich every farmer and rural resident in the county....so as pretty much eberyone is gearong up to tell her to get bent, I am simply maling sure that my property is legally gated and posted.

Have had the (deleted) show up and wander around my little corner of the world unasked, unwanted, unescorted a time or two, and it just burns me up. Our entire board of supervisors just got tossed out on their ears for behaving like this.....time to start pushing for some more scrutiny, and transparency in the new government.

That's a bunch of lumber Zopi!

I have a county assessor that's the same way. He likes to come around snooping to see if he can find something to raise the taxes on. I caught him snooping around the house with his camera one time and called the local supervisor and told him I was going to report him. Oh what for was the ? For taking pictures of my wife just out of the shower with his camera....last I saw of him.  :D

I'm with you zopi on the need for a quick but nice looking fence.

Our tax inspector loves his camera and tape measure also.  Since my property is "non-resident", he knows full well that he can snoop whenever he chooses.

That's a fine stack of lumber and a sure-enough honest day's work. However, I'm like the others about using the Poplar for fence posts. There's an adage that says, "If you don't have time to do it right, where will you find the time to do it over?"
Remember, you have a mill...a nice one. You can cut some longer lasting posts very easily.

Of course we have cedar, I just do not have enough handy....ain't gonna worry at it...gonna treat em amd sink em...

Since insomnia had me this morning, I wrote a nice long letter to the editor drawing parallels to the behavior of this dept. And the rest of the government which led to the recent firing, en masse of every oncumbent on the board of supers, except the one who was not related to himself...
And intimating about the liability the county incurs with county folks roaming private property without the owner's knowledge...such as, for instance my ten thousand dollar mower, or my sawmill comes up missing, and the only person documented to have entered my property was a county employee...that, and sort of mentioned (citing supporting articles in the newspaper) the fact that not everybody out here was firing on all cylinders....heck, I bet I hear at least three hundred rounds fired out here in a given day...
Once the fence is up, and the (antique) wrought Iron gate is up, and the property os legally posted, the next thing will be a call to the new super.
Was funny though, I was talking the other day to my neighbor about it, this is the guy I voted for for super....his comment? "Sure is funny how people seem to mind your business for you."
All of the new supers are active farmers....lol

We also cleaned house with our county supervisors.  That is my idea of "term limits".   ;D

Now if we could find out how to extend it to DC.
