That was well done!  If I did not have a mill and if I did not live 900 miles away, I would call you to cut lumber for me  8).

I am very, very grateful for all of your kind comments, and for arranging a new WM hat.   Just don't think that means I will throw out the old one! :D :D

Most of you commented on the quality of this news clip.  Exactly.  I can't get over the professionalism and skill of the WFSB Channel 3 Hartford Eyewitness news team who produced this video about an unusual subject, cutting logs into lumber with a portable sawmill, after snow and wind took down a lot full of trees, and still got  everything right.  Except maybe not that I'd finish all those logs in another day.   :) :)

And to my customer, who arranged the coverage at their own initiative, to help me out.  And who also arranged the whole situation and provided the content, including perfect stacks of lumber and logs.  Monk could not have done the latter two better.

Someone was looking over me that day.  At the beginning of the video, there was that log rolling (or should I say falling) down from the top of the pile, right onto the loading arms. YIKES, I was thinking.   :o :o :o :o :o  And I'm not prone to giving sound bites,  but a few lines still came out right.   And, in front of the camera,  I managed to cut a 12' hemlock into a perfect 8x8 and one side piece of lumber with 5 cuts.  The morning started with difficulty of either ice or air in the diesel lines.  And not too long after the reporters left, the hydraulic micro switch failed but I had a replacement and didn't drop any of the tiny nuts or bolts, and my fat cold fingers still got things back together.

Anyway, sometimes things work out even better than one expects.

Actually, I was impressed with the log rolling onto the loading arms!  I did not realize that it was serendipity  :D.

Great story, I'll admit, I went back and watched again, just to see how bad the hat was... ;D

I got one call within 5 min of the segment being aired, she had trees still standing.  Exchanged voice mails so far.  I've run into a half dozen people who saw it on the news, one who had trees and was thinking about wood.  I think its main value will be in using the link in email and on my web site to let people see me & the sawing process & hope they tell others. Callers coming in via my web site seem to like it.  Time will tell.
