Not quite sure what it is about this article that has me scratching my head. I did want to find an article talking about making wood flooring. Here are some quotes. I can find little fault in them. Still I'm not sure I will pass this along to my customers. Maybe I just make things too complicated. But it doesn't feel fair, I'm afraid my wife could find this and wonder why our upstairs hallway floor isn't done yet.

...All you need is access to a hardwood tree and a band saw to cut hardwood
...Check the trees in your garden or front lawn to find out whether you have a hardwood tree
...Never run with a chain saw in your hand.
...Switch off the chain saw when the tree starts to fall. Shout "timber" and walk away from the tree on your escape route.
...Mark up the required thickness along the log with a marker pen.
...Check the blade of the saw before you start the machine up. Make sure there is no breakage on the blade and that the machine is in working order.
...Place the wood log on the saw machine and slowly start pushing it toward the blade.

And a really good warning...
Don't cut down a neighbor's tree without permission -- and never cut a tree in a park.

their is probably a picture of my car, with a 6 ft long, 12 in dia log stickin out the back..

.... it was only 2 blocks.
i wised up and bought a beater truck.

i talked to a land owner yesterday on the phone, told him im still working on my mill but looking for material 12in and bigger, then came to $ ,without seeing it i cant tell you what i will pay. then he said, so you think its worth more than firewood price? i said i sell firewood at $50 a pickup load. He didnt like that response. Not shure if i will even pay doyle price, im only planning on pulling it out at 4 ft pieces, and using a winch crane in the bed of the truck, from the sounds of it, only able to go in their late season/winter. all clay.

Funny, I have been reading about Maple Sugar and came across a similarly well written article.... they even had a picture of a red maple tree showing how to identify the sugar maple.
