Trip to Tennessee did I mention it was raining!
« on: February 05, 2004, 06:46:48 am »
We will be heading to Tennessee in Mid-April.

We will be driving a F350 DRW pulling a tri-axle trailer.  This is a personal trip I need to know if I have to stop at truck weigh scales.

Not sure of the route be we are starting in West Michigan and going to Waverly, Tennessee.

Any input we be appreciated.

If anyone knows of red cedar in the general area down there we would like to bring some back.  Just an idea for right now.

Yep, you'll have to stop. If you don't they'll come get you if they're bored. Most times they'll just wave you through.

A lot of times they have a sign that says all trucks over a certain weight must enter. So depending on how much you have your truck licensed for makes a differance

:P I do not belive you have to stop. these are for commerical vehicles only, and over 16,500lbs G.V.W. only, any private carrier is exempt. except hauling for hire.  Duane.  ps. when ya get to Bucksnort wave then to Waverly to Loretta's. Drive Safely.

Thanks for the input guys.  We will probably be pulling over at these stops to just to be on the safe side.

We are going to be down there a week or so.  Would like to do a little sight seeing but this is a work trip to help my brother.  He has bought 80 - acres  and wants to get a camp set up and some fencing around the place.  For future plans.  Wants to be able to bring wife and baby down.

J T We should have some time to meet up with you when we are down there.  If everything goes well.  Maybe even be able to meet other forums members on the way if possible.

It's a good idea to stop. Non-commercials under a certain weight aren't required to have papers but they don't know your not commercial if you don't stop. Around here the DOT guys can be real harsh and that's the only description I can use on a family forum.  :D

Some years back I was on I-80 just east of Des Moines, IA. It's 4 lane on each side and lots of traffic. I'm in the fast lane when I came over the hill. There in the median sat a DOT car. The lady in front of me almost locked up her brakes. I came real close to hitting her. The DOT came out and pulled me over. This idiot read me the riot act and gave me a ticket for following too close to the car in front of me. That's not the first time I've had them be jerks to me and I'm sure it won't be the last.

The wife and I went to Tenn. last sring to pick up a lathe bed. Spent some time hiking in the Great Smokey Mt. Park, boy what a great place. Hiked 4 mile to the top of one of the trails, breathtaking to say the least.  Was only driving the pickup so didn't have to worry about weigh stations.

Look out Tennesse here we come.  We are leaving Saturday morning bright and early.

Hope to maybe meet up with JT while we are down there.

We will be gone for about a week so there won't be any posts from us so don't think we left the forum we will have a lot to catch up on when we get back.

Maybe the snow will be melted by the time you get there. They had 3 inches in some parts of Tennessee today. :o :o
