Any feedback on Powermatic  (Jet) planers?
« on: February 05, 2004, 04:25:06 am »
Im looking into ordering a model 209 powermatic planer, 20" 5hp single phase.  It is a relatively new model.  The price tag is attractive at $1699.

Any feedback from powermatic users about overall quality and durability as well as customer service?

Thanks.

I have the Jet 15" that is like the 20" powermatic. Have not had any problems with it. Pretty easy to change knives, does a good job planing. Make sure you have a strong dust collector.

If your budget can stand it I like the spiral cutterheads over the straight knives. I'm going to sell mine this fall and get one.

For whats it's worth.
I have been able to order parts for some 20 and 25 year old Powermatic tools. Powermatic tells me everytime I order something that it may not be available next time. But I think for them to still have new parts for 25 year machines says something. I am not sure if this holds true for there lower end tools or not. Most of my stuff is the good old super heavy commerical tools.

Powermatic ALL the way. Might cost a tad more but worth every cent.
