Lottery.
I think about winning the lottery everyday.
Its my meditation. I run over and over, even write it on paper like Rainman "Who's on first" (I.E: What would I buy first and then on and then on.)

So here's what I'd do, buy a 2011/12 Chevy Silverado 2500, Diesel, Crew Cab then go make a cash offer on a house I have been looking at for a while and ski all winter and surf all summer.

I just saw a Billboard that shows the Florida Lottery is 67 million this Saturday.
Property and a lot of it is one of the things on my list should I be lucky enough to win.
This is Florida though and the chance of getting hit by lightning is higher than winning the lottery.

WE have a couple sayings here on our hill, :

"I am headed to the shop to WORK on my luck"
usually in the evening followed by many hours of ACTUAL work.

"Make your own breaks".

"go with what you know".

We dont play the lotto, and quite frankly I consider it a,............ well, to put it nicely, A TAX on people who think they can get ahead by playing it.

The whole dang thing is rigged anyway. The lottery terminal operators win more times than is statistically possible.

I'm gonna win one of these days. I guess it would help the odds if I played it first. Never did get bit by the gambling bug. Except business, went out on a limb more times than I care to count. I have won more of those bets than I have lost. I guess it is like Ironwood said, make your own luck.

It takes more than just being hit by lightning. You have to be hit by lightning at precisely the right moment. Years ago, when Florida first started the Lottery, a gas station attendant from Georgia came down to the state line to by a ticket. The other winner never showed up to collect until somebody noticed that the other winner was entered in the same machine just fifteen seconds before the winning ticket was printed. They finally figured out what had happened and gave the guy his other three million smackers. Now if that ain't the DanGedest stroke of luck you ever heard of, I'd sure like to hear your story!

That is amazing. That is what you call a "stroke" of luck.

I have only ever bought one lottery ticket, and that was because of a really bad work situation that day, and I said, "What the hey, maybe I will win the lottery and lose this place."

If I did buy another ticket, and if I did win, I would buy a whack of land. Land with trees on it. A whack of trees on a whack of land. And, I would send a whack of time on it. No Times Square for me.

We occasionally buy tickets but I would say less than twenty per year.
One thing for sure. Winning doesn't require any skill.
We were on vacation in Maine a few years ago when my brothers and I pooled a few dollars for the Lotto. We hit 5 out of 6 numbers. It paid a thousand dollars.

The grand prize that week was 2 million.
We were working that night on painting my truck when my mother and daughter called all excited.
It was a pretty neat deal that lead to the question "what if we had won the whole thing"?

But in the odd chance I did win the biggun, there would be a lot of morgages paid off. Might even find time to travel some.

I've done pretty good on the lottery, because I know how to play the odds.

I just pretend I bought a ticket every week, so I actually "make" a hundred bucks a year

One of my high school classmates won $3,000,000 when he was forty. I made a mess of his life. His wife finally had to quit her job (one she enjoyed) because she was always being criticized by coworkers for keeping a job that someone less fortunate could have. He had to hire a bodyguard for his daughter's graduation ball because he'd been told to "share the money" or something would happen to her. He gave up getting together with former classmates because most of them were hitting on him for "just a small loan". None of it would have happened in a big city.

Another classmate won $500,000 -- twice in 10 years. He put both winnings into a locked-in retirement fund and went on living his life as usual. Anytime someone tried to hit him up for some "a loan" he just said he couldn't touch it until he retired. I suspect he could, but that's his business, not mine.

Yeah...would not stick around...a big hit, buy a mountain somewhere govered in decent second growth or better...house...workshop bigger than house, and be a hermit...seldom seen, even by ghe delivery guys....
Funny thing though, those guys come back down the mountain and said the sawmill was in an air conditioned shed.

If I won the lottery I would still be right here. I'm not interest in gallivanting all over the Dang globe. And I would have a big barn and shop and never come out except to sleep and eat. And like Zopi said, to make brief appearances to retrieve my online tools from the delivery boy.

I feel I have already won it. I have never bought a ticket in my life, and gambled more than a few times in business - and actually won a few times too.

Because of living very simply, and reinvesting everything we could, we now are where we know where we are getting our living in the future, and so does our kids. We have no debt, and have income from trees we have grown.

In all honesty, I thank God daily for what we have when so many are facing a pretty bleak future.

I'm very glad for you Fred. But as the saying goes nothing is set in stone. And I wouldn't wish any future hardships on anyone. It's just when you think your untouchable when your luck can change.

I would have some nice logging equipment and other equipment to play with and start to buy back the old farm land. I would help out others that needed it,I'm not talking about the ones that would come find me and ask. I sure would like to buy those big curtains my GD school needs for the stage.Set up my Grand kids for college,but they would have to come work for me to earn it. Help out the step sons and thier families.
Just so you all know,I don't think there is a day that goes by that I don't thank God for letting me live my dream here with my wife.

I tend toward the paranoid in life, etc but I also I happy that currently we are doing well. We don't have a lot of cash, but we are living a good life.

Not having debt, having lots of assets, and very very low costs helps a lot. We just added up that we spent on ourselves only 7,000 USD last year. Pretty easy to cover that.

Yeah, luck can change, the key is making sure you aren't trusting your luck. And if you are lucky, don't blow it on a splurge.

I would do like some others, buy lots of land. I would have enough to manage it properly. The worst thing to do is raise the standard of living a whole bunch. A house's location is more important than the size. A beautiful view from a valley edge with a small lake and some mountains would be nice.
Hmmm. I do have a bunch of land and a house with a big view of lots of hills. Close.
Aaron and I are getting ready to make the biggest investment of our lives. It is one big gamble. But the odds went up when our biggest customer said they needed us to do it and were tickled. They were wanting to expand their markets too. This is our lottery.

If I won I would donate to the food pantrys. Then order a new tri axle peterbuilt with a knockle boom on the rear and a pup trailer behind that. Also a new skidder something I wouldn't have to work on once a month

hand the lady behind the counter a dollar, tell her you want to buy a dream. it's fun to buy a dream for only a dollar. poor dumb people like me couldn't keep it long. somebody would need, really need more than me. i thank God every day the phone doesn't ring, calling me out for an all nighter because someone is lost. money would be fun, but a lot of folks depend on me coming.

Every time the prize tops 50,000,000 they do a group thing at work. I buy in just so I won't be left all alone when the dreamers win

Other than that I figure if I am lucky enough to win I should be lucky enough to find the ticket laying on the road so I don't need to spend my hard earned cash.
