New guy saying hello
« on: November 16, 2011, 05:11:04 pm »
I'm not sure if I'm starting this in the right place, but I just wanted to say hello.
I'm just getting into this, getting ready to buy a band mill, and selectively harvest some of my property.
I won't pester you guys much, I mostly read and learn. Seems like there is a wealth of knowledge here. Anyways, thanks for having me.

Like the others said...a hearty welcome to the FF.  Ask anything you like.  You'll be surprised at the depth of answers you'll receive.  A great place.

Welcome to the Forestry Forum Riggs! 8)  Yep there is a lot of Sawyer knowledge here, but there is also just a lot of nice people. It's like a family.  Pull up a nail keg, sit down and join us. :)  Also, I sure hope you like Grits. That is an important subject on the Forestry Forum. ;D

Riggs, welcome to the forum. We love to be pestered. Alot of times your questions will help others. What kind of wood you got? What are you building? How are you getting the logs out. Ever been around a mill before? I won't ask about the grits.  ;D

I have 50 acres give or take, mostly poplar & oak with some maple & hickory sprinkled in. I am just hoping to finish my barn for now. I'll be using my tractor for the logs. I used to offbear in my teenage years, so I know the basics. Grits ??? y'all have got me scared to ask... ???

I am good friends with some folks from Maine, they say they live North of the Yankees... ???

Yo...Riggs. Welcome aboard!

Grits ain't bad. Just don't let none of the northern sawyers talk ya into eat'n some of that stuff Jeff and Magic eat. I forgot what cha call it but I seen a picture of it. Yuck!

Anyway, you'll have a ball on here and learn a lot to boot. Lots and lots of knowledgeable people.

Welcome again,

David / down below ya in South Carolina

P.S. Things I've learned:
1. How to put pictures on here.
2. What pictures not to put on here.
3. I should put a new beeper on my debarked.
4. Logrite handles DON'T bend.

Welcome, alway good to see another hillbilly on here. Had to lookup Lowgap, unless Google lies it is not to far from Bursville. Spent a couple of year in Bee Log out on the Cane river, just never ran across Lowgap or did not know it by name. Welcome aboard, good folks here, lot of information and offbeat humor.

Welcome Riggs, let us know how it goes when you start sawing.  We want to hear your take on things.  Grits remind me of Cream of Wheat which I like fried and with a little maple syrup.
I am in the pink when sawing cedar.

Just don't let none of the northern sawyers talk ya into eat'n some of that stuff Jeff and Magic eat.

Now how did I get into this.   :D  A couple of things that Jeff and I will eat together; Roasted Pig and Pasties, except his is Troll Pie.  Don't knock it if you haven't tried it.

I never ate, or even knew that other folks ate potatoes for breakfast until I traveled to other states.  It's amazing what people will resort to when they can't get Grits.
