I was supposed to go riding Saturday morning with my friend Berger The Tree Hugger. he came over to the house Friday afternoon with his German Shepard Bo to plan the ride to see a terminally ill friend of ours in Limestone Fl. . He never showed up Saturday morning. They found him sitting on the side of the river having passed of an apparent heart attack. He was 55. Bo was laying next to him guarding his best Friend.
Berger was credited by the Guinness Book for moving the largest living oak tree.

Thanks Guys. It was a shock. I guess as we get older this is going to happen more and more so I better get used to it. The alternative doesn't work out well for me.

A year or 2 ago Berger had a knee replacement. He was infected by a staph infection while in the hospital which got into his heart. It seems he battled it as far as he could. This is the 4th personal friend that died for the same reason originating at this hospital. I don't understand how this happens seems hospitals should be clean. I dunno.

Berger sure did love trees.

I'm not sure what is going to happen with Bo. He sure is a beautiful and faithful dog.

Sorry for the loss of your friend and Bo's friend. I think as hard as it is on you It will be harder on him. German sheperds take it really hard when theyre that close to their owner. I raise white German sheperds and recently had to take one back the other day. The man that owned him the last 3 years passed away and noone wanted him. THe coroner couldnt get near him and was wanting him shot. The owners grand son called me to take it. THat dog mourned for over a month just howled and howled. we took him to the funeral home and funeral.

He wouldnt eat for many days finally got him to eat and we rehomed him with a friend that just lost his old dog. did both of them real good. I know what you mean about losing friends, I ve lost 3 this year myself.

The specialists here that worked on my uncle's heart said it's hitting more people at a younger age by the percentages, compared to years past.

For the first week home, he could use a computer and webcam daily to interact with the doctors down south. His friend hooks him up to some terminals and that machine sends all the vitals over the internet. The webcam takes video of his incisions. Today is the last day for that machine, it's packed up in a molded case and sent back by bus.

Mom's uncle always watched the daily obits. and noticed by the percentages, if you lived past 68, you had quite a few more years left. He lived to 91. I think his mother, mom's grandmother, lived to 96. No one in the family ever had heart surgery before this.

Berger was single and had a office in part of his house with employees like I do. Bo has been laying next to the door since Saturday staring outside waiting for Berger to come home. He was trained to be a one man dog. I don't know how this is going to play out with him.

That is a sad reality. I have seen grown siblings actually fight the afternoon after their Mother was buried. And they were women in their 60's. Greed is a terrible fact of life.

I've seen that with mom's cousin. She had to go to the home, in good health, could live for years. The vultures descended and fleeced the place.

Raider, am so sorry you lost your buddy. Some days life just sucks all the way around. Both you and Bo lost a good friend and that is so sad. I hope you can move on from this and look back at some wonderful memories you all shared.

Please accept my deepest sympathy in the loss of your good friend. It's always hard to lose family or friend no matter the age but 55 is so young to leave. We just never know when the person we are talking to will be there to talk to the next day.

I hope Bo gets a good master. I'm sure he's grieving too.
