Oklahoma has record earthquake.
« on: November 06, 2011, 08:10:32 am »
Two nights ago we had a 4.7 quake that shook us in Stillwater and last night at had the record 5.6. Epicenter was in Sparks Oklahoma, which is east of Oklahoma City and the next county south of Stillwater. Luckily we had no damage that I have found yet.

Yeah whats up with youall down there? Can't you keep your ground under control!

It is strange for us to have earthquakes here. My son's girlfriend said she felt something but I had been sawing all day yesterday and didn't feel a thing.
What time was the 5.6? Did you have any damage?

I feel kind of cheated. People on facebook from this area talked about feeling it. I slept right through it.Heard some talk of damage.
Do insurance companies insure for earthquakes or is it like flood insurance, you have to buy seperately.

We had no damage. the only thing I have noticed was a picture frame that was on a table fell down. Me and the wife just got in bed after watching the ball games and we heard a rumble and then the house shook for about 45 seconds.  We have some french doors going out of our bedroom on to a deck and they were shaking along with the windows and the entire house,

It is such a weird feeling laying there in bed and everything is moving and the sound of it rumbling. We just layed there while it was happening, and after it was over my wife thought I was doing it at first just messing with her since we had had an earthquake the night before and had been talking about it. When we figured out what it really was she said that was awesome!!

Kansas I have no idea about earthquake insurance. I should probably check mine now since there is surprisingly a large fault in my back yard.

Some people think that living in the middle of the country is safe, but I am rethinking it. We have had record snow and coldest temps this year, record heat this summer and drought, and now record earthquake. Of course you can not forget the tornadoes!
Hopefully there will not be a tsunami. :D

Here in Ohio it is a add on insurance , I don't remember what year it was but we had one here that broke three of the seals on are insulated windows and the panelling on the living room jumped a 1/8 inch over the next sheet and the west side didn't seem to move but buckled the metal in the valley where the kitchen hooks on. Plus our chimney was pulled a inch away from the house. Now I have insurance for earth quakes  :D.

It's add on insurance in AR too.   Keep it since I'm sitting on one of the largest fault lines in the US.  Not too high if it works.

The first thing to get damage is often an in ground swimming pool.  We had a 5.2 several years ago that cracked my brothers pool.   Something to check.

It is such a weird feeling laying there in bed and everything is moving and the sound of it rumbling.

I felt the same thing after drinking just one hurricane down on Bourbon Street.  ::)

Well nothing like having tornadoes touch down in the state and then in the middle of a severe thunderstorm another 4.7 earthquake!

We felt that 5.6 all the way up here, just east of St Louis.  I was babysitting my BIL (cancer), sitting on his couch, and felt the couch moving.  I chocked it up to a few too many beers and my imagination, but then got a couple texts from my wife and sister asking about the earthquake, and then it was on the local news. So I guess I didn't have too many beers. I fixed that.
Earthquake insurance is an add on here too, it's mandatory if you finance your house, and has a larger deductable than the rest of the policy.
