Charlie,

Please give Gael and the rest of Tom’s family our deepest regrets on his pasting.  He will be greatly missed by a great number of us here on the forum.  I will miss his sage advice along with his cutting wit – sometimes very dry wit, but cutting none the less.  His ability to “put pen to paper” is one of the many things I will miss the most.  His short stories about the times you guys had growing up were are priceless.  I will try to always remember the conversions we had the last time he was at the pig roast.  It centered around fishing in the south and the Navy.

He will be deeply missed.

My thoughts go out to his family, his friends, and all of this Forum who enjoyed his whit and intellect but never got to know him in person.  As unexpected as today's events were, I must view this in terms of a blessing, while we try to assess our loss.  Tom told me a month or so ago that he did not want a "pity thread" on the Forum, and the last months of his life have been rough.  He is now free from pain, and free from the downhill struggles of dealing with disseminated disease.  Sometimes it is better to go quickly in the face of daily discomfort and the loss of the joys of life's daily routine.  So while I am sorry to hear today's news, he's in a better place.  My thanks to DanG and Nomad for extending their time to help him in the weeks and months prior to today.

My condolences Charlie and deepest sympathy to his wife and family.
I truly thought he was doing better and had a better than good chance of recovery.
I'll really miss him, his humor and brilliance.

I knew Tom before the Forestry Forum.  He’s the one that introduced me to the Forum.  I’ve had the pleasure to meet and visit with Tom in person a number of times but not nearly as many as I would have liked.  We not only exchanged ideas and stories here on the Forum but also exchanged e-mail and instant messages sharing our lives – good and bad.

Tom added a great deal to the knowledge, humor and wisdom found here on this Forum.  I’ll miss what he would have added but will enjoy what he has contributed and remember him.

Condolences to his family and friends.

My condolences to Tom’s family and friends.  Tom had a great insight into the human race and I thought highly of his comments.  May Tom RIP.

I remember reading a few days ago how Tom had gotten to go home, sit on his front porch, and just enjoy being there.  Thank God he had that moment.  I'm really going to miss him.

Charlie, my prayers are with you and your family.

I lost my Mom not to long ago and my preacher told me something that made me feel a whole lot better.

He said " David, you really haven't lost anyone, if you know where they are.

This is true.

Very saddened of Tom's passing. He was a real patriot of forestry and saw milling and full of knowledge and stories that he loved sharing with anyone willing to lend an ear or read them. If we had to loose him to bad health, I am glad he didn't have to suffer for long. I never met Tom, but will miss him like everyone else.

Take care Charlie, and Gael and all the rest of the family. Be thinking of you.

Oh no..........I don't know what to say.  Charlie, I never met you, but you must be a fine man to come from the same stock as Tom.  This is truly a sad day.  But, let us rejoice in the richness of the experiences that he gave us.
