My Dad said that the happiest day of his life was when the last of his cattle rolled out of the gate, but I know differently.  That is what he said, but he really hated to see them go.  He was just beyond caring for them anymore.   :'(

Danny, just another thing to keep you out of trouble. You would be putting a new fence up that would only take about three weeks, then another day or three to find where it is grounding before sitting back only to find you had fenced in the dam pigs.   ;D :D

Nice work, Danny.

If those hogs get too friendly you may want to put up the fence for protection  :o

Beautifully done set up there, Danny- thanks for showing us and starting a thread that got to food reasonably fast... at least it did if you can stomach wild pig.  There must be some way of cooking, smoking, boiling or mincing that will make something edible from these creatures.  None on my land yet but the neighbors say they've seen some not far away... and pigs do move around. Worst case, I guess, is I get to try out my 308 on something living and then see how it does parceled up into fertilizer.

sorry you had a bad experience with the wild hog meat.Like you I do not care for meat with a gamy taste weather it be hog ,rabbit or squirl.I think what happened was you ate meat from a boar or older male which will always have that gamey taste. Some people like it ,I just don,t know how.We have a big hog problem here in south Georgia and do eat them.We have trappers that make sausage with them and it,s good.We usually cook them for several hrs on the smoker on low heat.Next time we put one on the grill I will give you a call.I think we can change your mind.Nice shelter by the way.   al

when i was in GA there was a bounty on them, i don't remember how much but i think it was $5 a tail, a buddy of mine used to hunt them and he said there was a local church that takes the hogs killed for the bounty and cooked them up for the homeless....

that seemed like a great idea to me.... who are the homeless to complain how gamey it tastes?  ;D but i don't know how they cooked it...

Don't know how I missed this one but glad I found it. Danny has a nice set up there as I took a young friend over there that is interested in a mill and Danny being as nice as he is let him take the LT15 for a little spin through a log. I have to say that the way Danny has got it set up it should save him some work. You do have a very nice shed there my friend.

Al,

I did sausage before, and that is the best way to go from what I experienced.  That and slow cooked BBQ.  It was pretty good if you managed to clean all the fat off the meat.

Jueston,

Never heard of a bounty.  At least not in this area.

Jake,

You can store one of your LT70's under the shed anytime as long as you leave me the key.  It would need to be cranked up and ran once and a while to keep everything from getting froze up.  If you have any big, slick, walnut or cherry logs, you can store them there too.  If any of them seem to go bad, I will dispose of them for you :).

Well, Danny, all I can do is  ;D for/with you.    ;)  I have a cedar stump on my deck at the present.  I consider to start whittling on it Sunday for the woodcarver that brings me logs, from time to time.  Finally brought me my carving when he brought these cedars.

I don't know, Danny.  For this fellow, I cut to make the best planks for his carving.  I won't know until I start where it goes.  And this particular one is going to be....interesting.   :D  I will try to get a couple pics up in the next day or two.

His carvings are....impressive.

Jueston,
Never heard of a bounty.  At least not in this area.

i was on ft. benning, i'm not sure how close that is to where you live. they not only had bounties but they had special eradication teams too, they would put out the trashcans from the mess hall at ranger school [where they never get enough time to eat and most the food goes in the trash] and then turn on the headlights and mow them down like fish in a barrel... basically the eradication teams could do everything that normal hunters cant do legally....
