MLB playoff's
« on: September 28, 2011, 05:40:15 pm »
Tonight will be interesting to see how the playoff picture shapes up. What appeared to be a ho-hum playoff picture, has turned into a dead heat on the last game played to see which two of four teams get in the playoffs as wild cards. Then it is up to the final games to determine if teams get home-field advantage.

I'm not usually interested in the MLB teams, but this year the Brewers are enjoying a good ride, as well as the Tigers are doing well.

I can take it over Survivor acting anyday.  ;D

I have watched or closely followed every single Tiger game this year. I've not said anything about it due to the boo birds chirping last year when I mentioned I was enjoying baseball again

It's early in the play-offs and Cowboy Bob already needs a sedative.  (Phillies)  But even Cowboy watches Survivor and switches over to the game during commercials.   :)

My spouse is a baseball fan.  Years ago she followed the Yankees, but she has gotten over that  :D.  We've been following the Brewers the last couple of years. We've either watched or listened to most of their games this year.  If it weren't for the tape delay we would probably have the radio broadcast on when we watch games on TV.  Bob Uecker is far more entertaining than the TV broadcasters.

Maybe Cowboy Bob should lay in a supply of sedatives, Roxie.  It looks to me like there's a good chance it will be the Phillies and the Yankees in the World Series.

How 'bout dem O's, Hon!   (That's Baltimorese vernacular)

The largest baseball celebration in Baltimore in over a decade was last night - knocking the dreaded RedSox out of the playoffs. We have to enjoy our successes when they occur, which has been less often than rarely.

I watched that celebration and could not help but grin.  If you was a member of the nation you would have to be seething while watching that.

I'm a Braves fan and feel the same way.  I've spent almost a decade being disappointed in the Braves.  I've learned to cope.

The most interesting thing to me was the news coverage the next day after both the Red Sox and Braves blew their wild card chances. Huge amounts of time, conversation, and debate were spent on the Red Sox and how historic their collapse was, yet the Braves barely were mentioned - almost and after thought.  I guess that 1/2 game difference in their collapses' makes the Red Sox the best in something. :D

Play by play is posted through Yahoo Sports on Game Channel. A great way to keep track of all the MLB games while being played (but of course just the two now). Might need to login with a Yahoo account but it is free.
http://sports.yahoo.com/;_ylt=Al.23BYkfMeAtmWpf2AuzN5DubYF

When the game is on, link to this site and then click the MLB tab. The games being played are on the right column and there you can click on "game channel" that will connect to the "live" action. Usually they post quickly what is happening. As well, you can get the history of the game by innings, either Play by Play or just the scoring. A breakdown of all the stats for each player and who is out of the game. As well, the stats on each pitcher in the game.
I use it often to keep a running tab on the games instead of staring at the TV and having to listen to some commentators and the commercials.

Up here I use mlb game day. The free version.  You don't get sound or video feed, but you get real time (minus connection lag) data and animated views of everything going on. There is a mock batter standing next to the plate with the view of what ever stadium they are in.  Each pitch is traced on the screen with location, type of pitch, and pitch speed.  Every stat is tracked alonng with the ability to look at individual player stats.  next best thing to not being able to see or hear a game.  You can get to it just before the game with a link off from http://mlb.mlb.com/ . It usually appears as a little icon shaped like a field under on the game specifics on the left hand side of the page.  it is only there a short time before, and during the game.

This link might get you to the application.  You can look at after the fact stuff for the games. Once the games are about to begin, you can select the game you want to view and the flash application will load.  You can follow all the games (only 2 now of course, but during the regular season they are all there)

I wanted to add, that after watching the tigers all year long, that I know to never write them off and never give up on them as they never give up on themselves. I don't know how many times they have came back in innings and games through out this season with two outs in the late innings but it has been a bunch.  Its a good team.

Well, following the tigers this year has great semblance to my bear hunting. Great fun, great expectations with a less than desired outcome. Following the tigers for this season is now done. My chance now of a bear hunt resulting in harvesting a bear is about the same chance the tigers had last night going into the 9th down by 10 runs.
