I have worked with a surveyor for years. the trails do not need to be any biger than a walking trail, we put points in the ground with nails with flagging and shoot point to point. have to see both points they use a lazer to measure the distance ( measures down to thousands of an inch ). just try not to have any short shots ( around 50 ft or less ) make alot of error. I would try to use a trail in the middle of the property and then cut trails to all the corners or as close as you can get. take the path of least resistance like said already they traverse around sometimes we use the neighbors property when it is more open. would not worry about the property lines till you find all the corners.
