So, what makes live oak unique is that it stays 'green' all year long, is more dense than other oaks, causing it to have been desirable for use in ship building. Neat stuff. Thanks for posts, FF helpers....

I have an old picture of the Live Oak from 2010.
It has a lean from the Hurricanes of 2004.

I was walking through some thick woods this evening looking for a dendro sample (post oak) in an area that has a lot of live oak and long leaf pines.  Seven years ago, when we had three hurricanes hit our county in one season this particular area of woods had several live oaks blow over.  The blown over live oaks are mostly rotted away now--to the point of the larger logs only containing a few inches of solid wood.  They are supposed to be somewhat rot resistant but one would not know it from looking at these.

On another note, I had a tree stand in there that someone removed for me.

There are still preserves of live oak specifically for old ironsides...she has a layer of underplanking that reinforces her sides...and most of the frame knees are live oak..
Got Wood?
LT-15G GO chassis added.
WM sharpener and setter
And lots of junk.

I know the frames of USS Constitution are live oak (12 x 12), but curious as to what the "underplanking" refers to Zopi. Here is a mockup of the Ironsides sides, with 6" white oak inside and outside of the live oak frames.
