1981 Chevy C70 with Knuckle Boom - Sold
« on: May 23, 2011, 10:55:43 pm »
1981 Chevy C70, 366 gas motor, 4+2 trans, vacuum over hydraulic brakes, 10.00x20 rubber, good tread all around, hydraulic knuckle boom, 16 ft flat bed, 103K miles, 23,000 gvw (no CDL required), pintle hitch.

This was a very handy truck for me when I was first starting out.  However, I have enough work come to me to fill my available time.   I have not been to fetch any logs in two years.  Time to part company.

Known faults:
1) One front brake line leaks.  I will have this fixed before it goes down the road. Both front brake lines replaced...
2) Hydraulic controls for the boom on both sides of the truck.  A log rolled off the passenger side and buggered the controls on that side.  Everything is there. But needs some TLC.
3) No grapple.  Two tear drops on the swivel, use chain chokers to lift logs onto the truck.

The boom is rated at 5000 # capacity.   I have lifted 4,500+ lbs up close.  The boom is capable of rolling the truck over, even with the outriggers deployed, when fully extended at a 90 degree angle.

$5,000 or reasonable offer.  $3,500 with 10% to FF.

Gents,

If my pricing is off, PM me an offer...   I would prefer to sell as a unit, but, would consider selling the truck and the boom separately if there was interest.

Is this truck still for sale?  I might be interested if it will get to Mississippi.

Masonjar,
Yes, the vehicle has current, up-to-date, titlte and registration in the State of Kentucky.

LJ,
Yes, it is still available.  And once I get the brake line replaced, it should not be a problem driving to MS.

Have you fellas put a deal together yet? I've been sitting back waiting. My neighbor has some interest. He has a monument business and is interested in having a truck to set monuments. I didn't want to muddy the waters though if you guys are working on a deal.

LogDog,

My mechanic has been slow to get everything wrapped up.  I think LJ had other stuff come up during my delay.  So, yes, it is still available.   Brakes are done.  Tune up and service are in progress.

I am on the road until Friday.  If your guy is interested, have him call or PM me on Friday evening or Saturday.

Warren,

Do you have a picture you can post of the end of the boom? What would be involved with putting a grapple on the end of the boom? Is all the plumbing there?

LogDog,

Plumbing is NOT there for a grapple.   Would require adding a valve section and running 4 lines out the boom. If it does not sell soon, I was thinking of parting it out and keeping the boom for a stationary setup.   I would mount a seat on the riser and plumb the additional lines for the grapple.

I can't believe this truck hasn't sold yet. If you weren't 1000 miles away it'd be in my yard already.

I must agree.  For the price, I'd have it already except for me it's 2,200 miles. :(

SuperClyde007,

It is still sitting in the barn with a  cracked brake line (rear).  IF you would like to strike a deal "as is, where is", let me know.  I have two other FF members who may (or may not) still be interested after I get the brake line repaired.

At this point, it will be mid November before I have available time to address the issue with the rear brake line...
