A Letter From Bob
« on: December 19, 2003, 10:46:05 pm »
A few months ago I mentioned my future son-in-law Bob who is in Iraq. A lot of folks sent him cards and packages (he got over 60 at one time). Today we got a letter from him that made us a little sad. I'm sure moral is better now that Saddam has be captured but Bob was pretty down when he wrote this on November 20.

Merry Christmas to all and if you want to say a little prayer for Bob and all the other service people it would sure be appreciated.

Mark

Hello Everyone, How are you? Hopefully you are doing better than me. Things have got worse in the past week and a half. We get mortared everyday. We are now dealing with some major terrorists. They have started killing their own people for helping us. This deployment is coming to an end for us, but we all know it will be a rough few months. Two nights ago they killed a local Iraqi women and raped her daughter because they gave us information. The killed an American civilian contractor about and week ago, and we had our first death in our battalion not too long ago. I can't help but think about what will happen next. We are all trying to keep our heads up and stay in the game but it is very hard sometimes. Your support had made a huge difference in my morale. Thank you very much for that. Please let Sasha know I am fine and that I love her very much. I am going through hell but I am OK. I will not let these people cause harm to my guys or myself. I will never forget what you all have done for me. Thank you. Take care, I'll be home soon.

Bob Calavera

Gee, Mark, it sounds like Bob was having a rough time. I sure hope things are better for him now.  I know from experience how hard it is to keep your head up when you have to keep your head down all the time.  It gives you an awful crick in the neck. ;)  I'm sure you can tell Bob, without any reservations, that the whole ForestryForum gang is behind him.
Keep us posted as you hear more.
