Just switch the thermostat with your loader one because you know it's working, and who knows you may see your problem when you take it out of the loader engine.

Make sure the coolant level is where it should be and no air in the system.

If water is not touching the bulb of the manual reading temp. gage .. it will not read correctly.

If you blocked off the front of the rad. and No Temp. Rise, your're temp. gauge is junk.

You need to run the engine at least 1200 RPM's to do this test, you may not be able to reach proper temp. at idle RPM in cool weather.

take the other two  stats. back and get your money back.  I assume you did not test them.. just guessing their bad.

Easy thermostat testing.Go down to the grocery store and buy a meat thermometer.Leave you wifes thermometer alone, she will make you buy a new one when she finds out you have put her thermometer in a poisonous antifreeze solution.Put the thermostat in a tuna can.Eat the tuna first.Put some water in the can on the stove. put the thermostat in the can on the stove. No boiling, just chek the water temp with the meat thermometer. The thermostat will start to open be for its marked temperature. Some thermostats will be off spec. They can stick open or shut.Take the radiator cap off and check the temp with your meat thermometer after the engine has run a while.Forget the dash gauge or using other gauges.A new meat thermometer will cst 2 or 3 bucks. Many wanna be mechanics put the thermostat in upside down, this will cause a quick boilover and some times blow the radiator hose off. This is the way Ive tested thermostats since the early 1950s, It still works.
