Walter that looks just like my 1st 621 I bought in 1974. Rock solid bulletproof saw, it even has an inboard clutch which was years ahead of most other saws. You notice the Carlton chain sticker on the top cover which was the standard chain that came with the saw at the time. Now if you could get its 2 bigger brothers the 80 and 111, you would have a perfect team there.

Yours still has the gray spark plug cover, they usually go missing within the first week. I believe my 1978 Jonsereds 621 had a chain brake, no where near the quality of the Husqvarna 162 chain brake, but better then nothing.

Project saw???  Looks nice to me.  What's wrong with it?

LOL

Nothing That I know of yet...:) Sure is purdy tho! So far the Jonsered Set I'm angling for is the 49sp I already have...(Thanks Spike!) this 621..(Thanks Dr. !) and an 80 I have in the shed than needs an overhaul....the 920 will have to fill in for the 80 until I have it going.

So for a project, this one get taken down to the cases and put back together, new runner parts in the fuel system..and what ever else it might need. (I seem to have compression when I put my finger in the plug :)

And then a 630 to match my 920's...then a 2071 to match the 2094..see that's the good thing about this hobby. there is no end!

I got a nice Jonsereds labeled windsor speed tip bar I am looking to trade off.   15" 3/8 058  large husky mount.
Hope to find someone that can put it on a Jonsereds saw for collectivity.

No worries Walt, got a couple good top ends as you know. Got enough stuff to finish yours and do another one. We can put some new rings in while they are apart. (I think they take the same ring as a 254 Husky, so I have a couple of them.) Your saw is in good shape and should clean up real nice. There's probably a couple extra mufflers lying around if we want to experiment a little.

This is a bit of a tease, but I got a line on a possible 111S this morning.  8)  Guy came in a bought a new 390XP and we got to talking 'bout saws and it turns out he's a bit of a collector, and we may see him around here before long. (also collects old cable operated excavators/"steam shovels" and what not) The saw is his uncle's and it's his for the taking. Going to have to trade him something pretty interesting though.

Very cool! What do you think he would trade for? (Maybe next weekend for the 621's?)

I hope it looks better than mine.  I need a clutch and clutch cover.  Anyone have one around?

My brother has a 111S he bought new when he was a young logger , still has it with very few hrs on it and he won't part with it. But then if I offered him $500, who knows :-\. I'll have to wait until he gets back from Arizona.

So here is a few pics of the saw after the parts cleaner...there is very little wear and tear anywhere! Check out the area around the clutch & clutch cover in particular..not a scratch. Either this was a low hour saw with no mishaps or they were exceptionally well designed not to do things like throw chains.

I see that "square" plastic thing on the intake side of the cases..right in the air box. Is that a vent system? I'm not familiar with these saws so this is a learning experience for me as well. Is there any internals that are wear related? I don't want to open it unless I can get replacements for what ever might be inside.

The piston doesn't look bad..a few minor scratches. Looks like it ran rich with oil based on the amount of carbon that was on the piston..

Like its inboard clutch & it has some really big bar studs for a 57cc saw. (My Homelite C-7 is the oldest saw I had with an inboard clutch)
