Anybody out there have a late 70's (mine is a 1977) Timberjack 230 or 230D with an allison at-540 transmission? I just bought a rebuilt trans for it and I need to replace a broken flexplate, I do not think it was installed properly last time with the correct shims.
My Allison transmission dealer says the flexplate is a Detroit part (my engine is a Detroit Diesel 3-53), and Detroit says it's an Allison part. Allison and Detroit both say that Timberjack was responsible for the installation on the machine, so I called John Deere who took over Timberjack and they cant really help me out either. I have called several dealers for Allison and Detroit Diesel and they all seem a little stumped.
It's a long shot but I figured I would throw this out and see if anybody out there has ever worked on one of these.
Most of these machines were New Process manual transmissions, this automatic seems like a rarity for timbejacks. If anybody knows anything about this skidder with the automatic I would love to hear.
My machine has unfortuantley been beat on it's entire life and had some bad history, The previous owner didn't really take care of it, and the owner before that apparently had the transmission cooler lines bypassed. This sounds crazy, any idea why they would do that?
Any help on this is greatly appreciated.
