Hi all,

The robot brain that runs the FF sent me an email bustin' my chops for not posting in a long time. I sure appreciate all of the help I received here in the past and I hope to have the time to work on our wooded areas in the future. You guys helped me choose a great chainsaw and gave me good advice for having our pond site cleared.

Anyway, I have some real pretty cypress that I hate to sell, but I could use the Federal Reserve notes. My stepdad had it milled by someone in central Florida about 15 years ago and then he put it in his garage and never used it. I moved it to my place a few years ago and I'm not proud of the way I've stored it. It was outdoors under a tarp that I removed recently because it was falling apart. Yes, I'm guilty of cypress abuse and I deserve a good beating. What's amazing to me is that despite my mistreatment of this pretty lumber it's held up extremely well. The color of the wood is exactly what is was 15 years ago and the boards have stayed amazingly straight. I believe there is enough to do a small house but I haven't done an exact count. Each board is an actual inch thick, with a 2" lap on one edge and a .5" lap on the other edge and on the other face of the board. Most of the boards are 9.25" total width and maybe 10% or a little more or them are 11.25". I think the average length is about 10' with some 8' and 11'. The stack is something like 4' high and 4' wide, maybe a little more.

I don't know what this lumber is worth but I'll do some research if anyone is interested. I would like to sell it but I'm not going to give it away dirt cheap. I live in SW Georgia in Grady county. If for some reason you can't get my attention through the FF you can contact me via my website: http://blacksoldierflyblog.com/

~Jerry

I assume that the show surface is still rough sawn?

Hi WDH!

Both sides of the boards are planed. Over the years the grain has come up a little, but overall they're pretty smooth.

I don't know if you remember the old invitation to visit our woods, but if you're in the neighborhood you're still welcome.

Hi WDH!

I don't know if you remember the old invitation to visit our woods, but if you're in the neighborhood you're still welcome.

Just for the record you could probably come inside the house for a minute or two also.  :)

DanG came by a few times but the last visit we talked about politics. I should never talk politics with anyone I would like to see come back.  :-X

Does anyone have an idea what my lumber might be worth? I know it's hard to talk value without seeing it and maybe I'll post a few photos soon. If I was more ambitious and/or a better money manager I would just keep the siding...

I will go out on a limb and hazard an opinion.  I talked with one guy in Louisiana and he was selling rough cut cypress for $1.50/BF.  Since yours is planed and patterned, it should be worth more than that.  I would think $2.00/BF minimum, probably more.

Thanks WDH, Buck.

Buck, are you agreeing that $2 is a reasonable minimum?

The wood has very few knots in it, and those are small.

Jerry, t'weren't the politics that ran me off, it was that DanG heart attack.  Funny, I was just thinking of you the other day and wondering if you were still around.  It's a shame we weren't able to do anything with those logs you had.  I guess the pond is full of water by now, eh?  I bet it is pretty!

It looks like Jeff has been going through the member list and rounding up the slackers.  I can't imagine how you got on that list! ::) :D :D
