Theyre puttin a pond in!!
« on: October 28, 2003, 03:36:41 pm »
Well, as I have said before, I have 50 acres of country property, 25 acres wooded. Well, I just found out that my property has been on a list for a watershed program, and the Soil Conservation Services office is going to dig a 3.2 acre pond on my land!! I already have a 1 acre pond on one end of the property. Now im gonna have a 3.2 acre pond on the other! And 3 acres of it will be in the woods! I can't wait!  It is a cost-share program, part of what they call the "Big Creek water shed". It is designed to slow the erosion of land all along the Big Creek and Cache river in my area. It is projected to cost 26,000.00 to build. I am responsible for 4,000.00 of it. However if I help with the labor, that should help with most of that. Anyways, im pretty excited needless to say about the new pond!

Don't hold your breath.  I got plans from the COE to build an 85-acre lake, which would back up about 15 acres of water on my land.  Purpose was to keep silt out of the Missouri River so they wouldn't have to dredge as much to keep a navigation channel.  Plans are about 20 years old and I have yet to see a dozer.  Funding from Congress was never approved.

Ponds are nice until you sell and then they are a hole in the ground that you can't build houses on. :D

The only hope is water front property.  Maybe some cabins will make it worth a mint. :D :D

My particular pond has been on the list for 3 years, and finally, they have came around to digging it. (I just found all of this out because I just purchased the land about 6 months ago.) They just surveyed it 2 weeks ago, and they are breaking ground in the spring. As for the fish, they are going to stock it for me. (Via the Little Grassy Fish Hatchery). They are going to do bluegill, bass, and catfish. Ima hafta build some nice docks to fish off of!!! ;D Once they get done with it and it fills up, im gonna build a log home by it!
