clump bamboo
« on: May 19, 2010, 08:18:38 pm »
I've been studying this forum for a year. There are some pretty  smart people here. I've learned a whack !!  Question! Can any thing  kill clump bamboo besides a backhoe? I planted some as a border 20yrs. ago. It's slow like liberalism, but it needs to be controlled eventually. Ideas appreciated. Charlie

I don't have any experience controlling bamboo, but since bamboo is a grass, one of the "azine" herbicides (atrazine, simazine, etc.) might work.

It's probably (actually) Japanese Knot Weed which with several applications of roundup will eventually die

one of the only methods of controlling it is to plant a border of steel or ? which will keep the roots from spreading out underground.   best method is to plant it in buried pots with enough pot above ground to keep them contained...

the home & garden channel did some bamboo info about 6 months ago.  was interesting how many bamboo types there are.
