I am wondering if anyone has used any of the mushroom spores from fungi perfecti.  How does this work?  They used to have a bar and chain oil, has anybody ever tried this? Currently working on a lot, with a ton  of spruce blowdowns with lots of lateral spruce root systems that have been placed back to the ground.  Some of these are not able to find their way back to original position and with the gaps around I am going to try filling in with some of our wood chip piles.  Then I was thinking of using something to encourage rot.  Fungi or bacteria? Currantly this is a well landscaped property with a lot of moss and I am hoping to plant some trees and then encourage the moss to come back. Any suggestions

Those fungi spores that they are selling are primarily for eating, so they get to charge more for their goods.  I'm assuming you just want this stuff to decompose on its own.  There are probably enough fungi spores in the air to do it on its own.

Fungus needs 3 things to thrive - food, water, and air.  The wood is the food, and since its above ground, you would have the air.  But, you may have to keep things kind of moist to get the fungus going.  If the wood has dried out, you may need something on there that would keep it moist.  Chips, compost or dirt would probably fit the bill.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

I have used fungi perfecti spawn in the past to grow shiitake mushrooms. They do a good job of consuming oak logs (takes years) but you have to keep them damp. Wouldn't use it to decompose anything unless you have access to abundant water.
