« on: October 02, 2001, 11:40:48 am »
Mary and I are planning to attend the Paul Bunyan forestry show in Nelsonville,  Ohio this weekend.  Taking a sawmiller's day off! ???

Anybody else going? ::)

We'll probably be there Friday afternoon and most of Saturday.  I'd like to meet anybody that has exchanged posts with me on this forum.

Look for us at the Wood-Mizer booth.

Hope to see you there! 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Report and Pix From the Paul Bunyan Forestry Show

Mary and I just got back from the Paul Bunyan show.  It was great but I’m getting too old to drive and ride 1400 miles in three days. :-X

The weather cooperated.  :o  Some of the trees were in full color display though it was before their peak.  I think I enjoyed it better than in the peak because the ones that aren’t turned are still green.  The grass is as green as an Irish Shamrock.  Pumpkin patches here and there added to the color.

We met with a lot of old friends,  and made a number of new one.  Talked a lot with John Hicks of Wood-Mizer and met a few more good people that are part of that team.  Also talked with Tim Batey of Blockbuster.  We got to know Tim a few years back when we bought a 1412 processor from him. 8)

It’s interesting to see how others use their mills.  There are many similar experiences,  sawing and business practices yet there are as many dissimilar.

The show was quite entertaining.  There were several things going on at one time.

The Hocking Collage campus has a pioneer village consisting of about a dozen log structures.  The students were dressed in period costumes and put on a number of demos such as weaving,  blacksmithing,  candle making, etc. :P

There were competitions in sawing, log dragging, truck driving, etc.

There were displays and demos of equipment from all the major manufactures.

There were hundreds of artisans there with there crafts made of wood.  Must have been a dozen chainsaw wood sculptures’ there.
