240 winch issue
« on: May 09, 2010, 11:05:44 am »
I just started running a little 240A for a company and its been a great machine.  but the winch has started to act up on me once in a while.  What has been happening is it will "stall out" when im pulling a good sized hitch in, not the motor but the winch will.  Then if i let off the lever and let it free spool and try it again it will go fine.  I checked the hydro oil and its fine.  im a little puzzled with this, i also have very little experience with any thing gearamatic with is what it has a model 19.

Seems to me that you are losing pressure to the winch.I'm not sure what kind of control that the timberjack is using,if it is the old brake fluid master control or if it is updated to hydraulic control.Either way you probally have a leak in the lines or in the actual slave cylinder inside the winch. If it is a leak you had better get it fixed before you get too much oil (brake fluid or hydraulic oil)on the bands because it will ruin them.

I agree, its most likely leaking inside! Most likely the bands are already junk!!

I think you may be right about the leak bing inside because it will creep out on tight turn trees or if I have "too much" wood on it.
